Job Summary&Responsibilities Colleen and Gordie Howe Middle School is in central Abbotsford. We have a student enrollment of 550; 12% of our students have designations for diverse needs and 13% of our students receive ELL support. We have a vibrant Indigenous program that supports our Indigenous students. Our school goal focused on building protective factors in our students through engaging learning opportunities, physical and mental wellness, sensory regulation, restorative justice, and literacy/numeracy development. Howe Middle is a RULER school. The successful candidate will be committed to working collaboratively with Howe Middle teachers, support staff, and administration. They should have a breadth of knowledge and experience in the areas of social–emotional learning (including self‑regulation), trauma‑focused practice, Universal Design for Learning, inquiry‑based learning, and differentiated instruction.
Education&Experience
Major/minor or diploma in Inclusive Education (Special Education)
Practicum and/or work experience in Inclusive Education (Special Education) at the middle school level
Case management experience
Training and experience with Level B Assessments (e.g., KBIT2/KTEA III)
Non‑violent crisis intervention certification
Eligible for B.C. Certification
Satisfactory teacher evaluation and/or final practicum reports
Teaching Competencies All teachers are expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:
Communication&Interpersonal Skills: Ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs, feelings and capabilities of others in a tactful, compassionate and respectful manner.
Organization&Planning: Ability to plan and organize for effective instruction, differentiation and assessment.
Classroom Management: Create and maintain an optimal learning environment for each student while managing student behavior and classroom dynamics.
Facilitation&Engagement: Ability to capture and maintain students’ interest, effort, participation and enthusiasm for both the content and the process of learning.
Assessment&Coaching: Utilize balanced assessment and feedback to improve student learning including the use of formative and summative assessment strategies.
Collaboration&Teamwork: Collaborate with others to achieve group goals and objectives.
Caring&Inclusiveness: Create and maintain an environment that is caring, inclusive and supportive of all students.
Flexibility&Adaptability: Demonstrate flexibility in the ability to adjust and adapt to changing circumstances.
