Job Summary We are seeking casual Social Workers (BSW) to join our team at Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre. The role involves providing psychosocial/emotional assessment and therapeutic clinical counselling services to patients, residents, families, and community clients across assigned clinical areas. You will contribute to interdisciplinary care planning, discharge planning, and community resource linkage, ensuring comprehensive support aligned with professional standards and clinic policies.
Responsibilities
Conduct psychosocial/emotional assessments using focused interviews and data review, applying professional standards and clinical policies.
Provide basic therapeutic counselling, developing individualized plans of care with goals, timelines, and success indicators.
Educate and consult clients and medical staff on Social Work practice, covering high‐risk factors, recovery, community practice, legislation, and chemical dependency.
Maintain client records through documentation, charting, progress notes, and reports in accordance with professional and organization standards.
Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings focused on client care planning and discharge planning, advocating timely meeting schedules and collaboration with community partners.
Communicate with community health agencies, government ministries, home‑health personnel, and family physicians, making referrals and exchanging relevant information.
Act as a resource to clients, providing information on community resources, arranging referrals, and supporting family health planning.
Engage in ongoing quality improvement through committee participation, program/practice evaluation, and identification of service gaps.
Maintain workload statistics, submit data to staff, and provide input on data trends and improvements.
Advance professional development by reviewing literature, consulting experts, and participating in learning activities for clinical practice excellence.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from an accredited school.
One (1) year recent, related experience.
Current full registration with the BC College of Social Workers.
Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of psychosocial/emotional issues and current Social Work treatment modalities.
Counselling skills, including brief solution‑focused therapy, crisis intervention, and resource counselling.
Effective verbal and written communication with clients, peers, supervisors, interdisciplinary team, and community agencies.
Strong teamwork, multicultural respect, and independent work in a complex environment.
Ability to educate, consult, and participate in care planning and referral processes.
Organizational skills to prioritize workload and operate related equipment.
Physical ability to carry out position duties.
