Description
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for overseeing the full-cycle processing of Canadian payroll operations. This position combines day-to-day payroll execution with team leadership responsibilities and works closely with senior leadership to support team development, operational excellence, and continuous improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities - Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant processing of payroll, including year-end activities. - Oversee post-payroll responsibilities, including statutory remittances, third-party payments, reconciliations, reporting, and general ledger support. - Support and optimize payroll system functionality, including: - Participating in requirements gathering and configuration updates - Assisting with report development, workflows, and payroll-related system enhancements - Supporting testing protocols and implementation activities - Coordinating access and support with internal stakeholders and external vendors - Lead, mentor, and support payroll team members through training, coaching, and knowledge sharing. - Identify opportunities for process improvements, efficiencies, and automation. - Assist with benefits administration, disability management, and collaboration with internal HR and external service providers. - Partner with cross-functional stakeholders on projects, reporting requests, payroll analytics, and audit support. - Participate in internal controls processes and financial or compliance audits. Qualifications - Payroll certification required. - Minimum 5 years of experience processing full-cycle Canadian payroll. - At least 2 years of experience in a senior payroll, lead, or subject matter expert capacity. - Experience working with HRIS/payroll systems in a configuration, support, or implementation environment is required. - Experience in high-volume, multi-cycle payroll environments is considered an asset. - Accounting or payroll reconciliation experience is an asset. - Solid analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail. - Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
