Salas O’Brien Canada is searching for an Intermediate or Senior CET/Structural Engineer to oversee a major construction project in Ottawa, acting as the crucial link between our client, designers and subtrades. From 2026 to 2030, you will be a resident structural site engineer at the new Ottawa Civic Hospital being built in downtown Ottawa. This is a one-of-a-kind project for an engineer to be a part of. You will be the liaison between the site and design engineers to address any technical issues and project delivery to ensure that the schedule, quality and documentation are following design contract documents. Establish a strong relationship with the client and communicate with both technical and management-level personnel Perform site reviews and construction administration services during the construction phase. Circulate photographs and findings with design team and prepare site reports. Review project plans, requirements, and specifications. Co-ordinates site issues with the company’s design teams Reviews and coordinates Site Instructions with the design team Conducts project observations during the construction phase and ensures contractor compliance with technical and contractual terms and conditions throughout the construction stage Gathers, reviews and circulates with design team all inspection reports prepared by 3 rd inspection parties (geotechnical, concrete testing, steel mill shop reports, etc). Analyzes all structural inspection and testing reports relevant for the close-out of projects Regularly performs QA/QC Reviews Required to have a solid understanding of all contract documents during the construction phase Attend Construction H&S; and coordination meetings. Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Structural Engineering, or a Civil Engineering Technology (Structural) advanced Diploma Comfortable to undertake site reviews (walk on top of rebar, use scaffolding and ladders to assess work areas, working from heights Knowledge of regulations like building codes and standards. Experience and technical knowledge of concrete and structural steel Experienced in the Construction industry Reading and interpreting of drawings specifications, submittals, and other contract documents Understanding construction sequencing, logistics planning, scheduling techniques Knowledge of Ministry of Labour (MOL) regulations regarding health and safety on construction sites. Familiarity with common construction methods and materials in particular, cast in place concrete and structural steel design Registered Professional Engineer with PEO would be an asset Proficient use of Word, Excel, Bluebeam Revu Working knowledge of AutoCad Revit would be an asset 95,000 to $135,000 CAD depending on experience The duration of this assignment will continue into the 2nd quarter of 2030 with the option to join the Ottawa office upon completion of this major project.
