Embedded Software Designer - Platform Software (Quebec)

About This Chance As a member of a dynamic development team, the Embedded Software Designer (Platform Software) will actively design and develop embedded software for next‑generation Optical Transport products. The role reports to the Sr. Manager, Software Development. What You’ll Do Maintain and upgrade Linux From Scratch (LFS) systems. Upgrade the Linux kernel and port custom out‑of‑tree patches. Backport upstream patches to the kernel to support existing user space. Maintain existing kernel drivers and add new features as required. Upgrade Buildroot, port custom patches, and maintain system startup scripts. Integrate third‑party vendor libraries into the LFS system. Collaborate with FPGA designers to add SW support for new features and debug existing ones. Support new board bring‑up and configure/build firmware for early boot. Customize U‑Boot and kernel configuration, create and adapt Device Tree configurations. Assist the hardware team with low‑level commands in U‑Boot and Linux, and debug hardware issues related to low‑level software. Provide toolchain support (crosstool‑ng), maintain existing toolchains and create new ones for new platforms. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science. 5+ years of experience designing and developing embedded software. Excellent knowledge of the C programming language. Deep knowledge of the Linux operating system and kernel. Proficiency in Bash shell scripting. Assets You May Possess Experience with U‑Boot, Buildroot, and BusyBox. Experience with the Xilinx UltraScale+ SoC or other ARM‑based SoCs. Advanced Linux network configuration (netfilter, VLAN, Bridge). Experience with bare‑metal applications or early boot firmware. Knowledge of the Python programming language.
