Job Title: Web Content&Design Specialist (Temporary) Department: Communications Classification: Non-Exempt Grade: 10 FTE/Working Schedule: 0.74 FTE estimated (40 hours/week)– temporary through February 2027 Position Overview: Carleton College is launching a new standard website theme to enhance consistency, accessibility, and user experience across all 600+ sites. This project is a crucial step in ensuring our academic departments, administrative offices, and student organizations have intuitive and on‑brand web presences. The Web Content&Design Specialist will play a key bridge‑building role in this effort, working closely with ITS, Communications, and site maintainers to transition and optimize sites for the new theme. Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities
Collaborate with site maintainers to audit and prepare their sites for the theme migration, focusing on content quality, organization, and visual appeal. Conduct technical and accessibility QA on new sites, addressing issues such as broken links, missing alt‑text, and proper heading structure to ensure compliance with WCAG standards.Partner with site owners to re‑organize and simplify site navigation and content, leveraging the new web design blocks to improve user experience. In partnership with the web analytics and training strategist, contribute to training and support materials that empower site maintainers to manage their sites independently.Provide ad‑hoc design and content support to site maintainers throughout the migration process. Education, Experience, and Skills
Required : Bachelor's degree or equivalent full‑time professional experience, ideally with coursework in computer science, design, and/or communications. Minimum of 6–12 months of web writing and editing and front‑end website design experience. Proficiency with web design tools such as Figma for visualizing design changes. Practical experience with content management systems, specifically WordPress, and a solid understanding of HTML. Demonstrated knowledge of UX/UI best practices and a strong user‑first mindset. Understanding of web accessibility requirements, including WCAG. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, withthe ability to build rapport and work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders, from technical staff to non‑technical site maintainers. Attention to detail. Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to track progress on multiple sites simultaneously and meet deadlines. Curiosity and empathy. Ability to learn new technologies as needed. Must have the ability to understand and follow written and oral work instructions, operations, safety procedures, and hazardous labels.Preferred : Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator, to create visual assets for pages when needed. Experience working within a distributed web model or a large‑scale web migration project is highly desirable. Benefits
