Job Title AVP, R&D

Overview We have a great opportunity to join our Global R&D function as a leader of a team of five actuaries and analysts. You will be leading the development of biometric assumptions for a range of different global reinsurance markets and influencing key stakeholders to maximize the value of assumption knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver biometric assumptions across Longevity and Protection markets in Europe and North America.

Lead a high‑performing team – manage, coach, and scale capabilities to meet growing volume of assumptions.

Provide technical direction, stakeholder engagement, and implementation of assumption solutions.

Build and maintain relationships with R&D teams across multiple geographies, and with Savings&Retirement, Protection, Corporate Actuarial, Operations, Risk, and other biometric teams.

Collaborate closely with senior stakeholders in Pricing and Product development.

Redefine market–leading standards, challenge inherited methodologies, and pioneer new analytical approaches.

Scale the team’s capabilities while streamlining processes and eliminating inefficiencies.

Influence decisions at the highest level with clear, compelling recommendations.

Provide rigorous, independent challenge to Pricing assumptions, ensuring intellectual honesty.

Shape the profession through thought leadership, partnerships, and research initiatives.

Desirable Skills&Experience

Experience in assumption development within a reinsurer, life company, or consultancy.

Qualified Fellow of the Institute or Faculty of Actuaries (or equivalent) with 6+ years post‑qualified experience.

Strong understanding of Longevity or Protection reinsurance markets.

Ability to develop and implement new approaches and techniques.

Excellent report writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills for senior audiences.

Proactive thinking and willingness to challenge the status quo.

Organised, deadline‑focused, and strong programming background (Tableau, SQL, R).

Experience in people management or mentoring, with interest in coaching junior staff.

Compensation Range The compensation range represents the company’s good‑faith minimum and maximum for this role at the time of posting. The actual offer will depend on experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
