the Company Flutter Care is a Canadian medtech startup redefining maternal and fetal health through breakthrough human-centered innovation. Our mission is simple: bring more joy, confidence, and connection to every step of the perinatal journey while driving better health outcomes. We equip expectant individuals with intuitive tools that help them make informed decisions and advocate for their wellbeing. We’re a small, dynamic, and resourceful team that moves quickly, collaborates closely, and builds with intention. If you enjoy solving big, complex challenges that truly matter, this is the place to be. Backed by leading investors and accelerators, Flutter Care is on a strong path to becoming a category leader and we’re looking for ambitious talent to help us shape the future.
About the Role Flutter Care is seeking a talented R&D Mechatronics Engineer to join our team and play a key role in advancing wearable health technology designed to transform maternal and fetal care. You’ll help shape the sensing architecture behind our platform, driving the research and development of sensing systems, bench test platforms, verification and validation activities, and cross-functional system integration.
You’ll work hands‑on with prototypes and electromechanical systems, rapidly iterating on designs, evaluating sensor performance, and supporting reliable integration across hardware, firmware, and software. This role is fast‑paced and highly collaborative, ideal for someone energized by solving complex technical challenges and building impactful healthcare technology from the ground up.
Responsibilities
Sensor&Electronics Development:
Research, evaluate, and integrate sensor technologies and supporting electronics for wearable sensing applications.
Mechatronic System Integration:
Design, assemble, and troubleshoot integrated electromechanical systems and functional prototypes.
Bench Testing&Validation:
Develop custom test fixtures, execute characterization experiments, and analyze data to guide design and validation activities.
Quality&Reliability Testing:
Perform verification and reliability testing with a focus on repeatability, traceability, and robust system performance.
Rapid Prototyping&Iteration:
Quickly prototype and refine concepts using electronics, mechanical components, and basic firmware to de‑risk technical challenges.
Firmware&Data Acquisition Support:
Develop or modify firmware and software tools for system control, testing, and data collection.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with hardware, firmware, software, and quality teams to support end‑to‑end system integration.
Documentation&Design Controls:
Maintain clear technical documentation, including test methods, design iterations, schematics, and validation results within regulated development processes.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, Biomedical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
Hands‑on experience with electronic systems, sensor integration, and prototype development
Experience building, testing, and troubleshooting electromechanical systems
Familiarity with basic firmware and software development (e.g., microcontrollers, embedded C/C++, Python)
Experience designing and executing bench testing, characterization, and experimental validation activities
Skilled in designing experiments, evaluating datasets, and rapidly iterating based on results
Strong systems‑level thinking across electrical, mechanical, and software domains
Excellent problem‑solving and cross‑functional communication skills
Maintains high standards of technical documentation within regulated medical device development environments
Proactive, self‑driven, and comfortable working independently while collaborating across teams
Thrives in a fast‑paced startup environment with ambitious technical goals and evolving priorities
Preferred:
Experience working with multimodal sensor systems and complex sensing architectures
Ability to evaluate system‑level constraints and identify performance, timing, and integration risks
Exposure to embedded systems development and hardware‑software integration workflows
Experience with wearable device development and rapid prototype iteration
Demonstrated ability to solve complex, unconventional problems when standard methods fall short.
Familiarity with medical device standards and regulatory frameworks (ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 60601, etc.).
Encouragement to Apply:
We recognize that candidates may not meet every qualification listed. If you are passionate about our mission and believe you can contribute in unique ways, we encourage you to apply. Your diverse experiences and perspectives can be invaluable to our team.
