Description
Cineflix creates, produces, and distributes must-watch TV for global platforms, with operations in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, New York, Los Angeles, London, and Dublin. A leading international media company, the group includes top-ranking sales and acquisitions division, Cineflix Rights , as well as production labels Buccaneer and C3 Media . With a catalogue of 7,600 hours of select programming across a wide range of genres and a collection of YouTube and FAST channels streaming 24/7, Cineflix is behind some of TV’s most popular and long-running shows.
The Role Cineflix Media is seeking a Host for a Cineflix YouTube original format on a contract basis for approximately 8 days (4 days of prep and a 4-day shoot), based in Toronto, with hybrid prep and onsite shoot days.
Reporting to the Digital Producer, the Host will serve as the consistent on-camera presence across a Cineflix YouTube original format that extends an established brand into digital video / video podcasting.
The format features four standalone specials and if successful will expand into further episodes. The host acts as viewer’s trusted companion and proxy, asking the curious questions the audience wishes they could ask. Their personality, warmth and genuine engagement with both the technical and human aspects of the Specials will build rapport with the audience and keep them coming back.
On camera, the host drives the format and conversation, keeping discussions lively, curious and on track, alongside rotating expert co-hosts. Off camera, the Host works closely with the Digital Producer to prepare and shoot each episode.
The salary range for this job is: $500 per day
Responsibilities
Comfortable fronting long-form video content (20–30 minutes) with consistent energy, clarity and authority.
Experienced working from bullet points and notes within a structured format rather than a full script, maintaining natural pacing and delivery without sounding rehearsed.
Factual Communication Skills
Skilled at translating complex or technical information into clear, plain-language explanations that are accessible to casual and super-fan audiences.
Experienced working within a brand-led factual format, where accuracy, sourcing and editorial integrity are non-negotiable.
Skilled at working alongside a rotating technical co-host, creating genuine conversational chemistry rather than a stilted or scripted exchange.
Able to act as the audience proxy by asking the questions a curious, intelligent non-specialist would ask, while giving the expert space to deliver insight and operational context.
Experienced directing and shaping a conversation in real time, keeping segments on track without shutting down moments of genuine engagement or discovery.
Comfortable maintaining pacing and energy across multi-segment formats, including transitions between interview-led discussion and clip or visual-led segments.
Dual-Audience Delivery (Video&Audio)
Aware of and attentive to the needs of both video and audio-only formats.
Able to narrate, contextualise and verbally signpost visual elements including clips, graphics and pre-recorded interviews, ensuring audio listeners are never left behind.
Skilled at introducing contributors, investigation bodies and sources verbally, with appropriate context, rather than relying on on-screen lower thirds alone.
Consistently articulates the“why this matters” for each segment, making the relevance of technical detail explicit to new and casual viewers.
Skills and Qualifications
Proven experience as a video host, presenter or podcast host in a factual, science or documentary format
A background in factual, science, engineering or technical communication, whether through formal training, professional experience or an established track record
A self-starter who thrives in a collaborative hands-on environment.
Comfortable taking ownership, asking for input and integrating feedback.
Support Structure The Host will work closely with a dedicated Digital Producer responsible for research, episode structure, scripting outlines, production scheduling and post-production. The host is not expected to develop research materials, though their input and perspective are welcome.
On shoot days, a camera and lighting assistant will be on set. Editorial and scheduling guidance will be provided by the Digital Producer. Bullet-point outlines, segment structures, fact-checked research notes and clip references will be prepared and provided in advance of each recording session.
Cineflix Media is an equal opportunity employer committed to providing a diverse environment. Cineflix welcomes and encourages applications from people with disabilities. Accommodations are available on request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection process.
