Summary of Duties The Trauma Recovery Clinic provides an innovative model of care with a focus on improving patient’s functional and psychological outcomes after traumatic injury. Services available in the clinic are limited to patients discharged from the Tory Trauma Program at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and include surgical follow up, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, psychology and psychiatry, social work, and chronic pain management.
The Successful Candidate Will Be Expected To
Review intake assessments to determine eligibility for new referrals and liaise with multi-disciplinary colleagues
Conduct psychological and neuropsychological assessments
Provide individual treatment involving a number of different modalities (e.g. CBT, prolonged exposure therapy, cognitive processing therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, grief and mourning CBT, DBT, Mindfulness)
Participate in case conferencing
Provide in‑service education for staff as needed and requested
Provide clinical supervision for trainees within the program (i.e., practicum students)
Provide professional consultative services to all regulated health professionals within the program
Generate and conduct research to support evaluation of intensive program and assess treatment outcomes
Ongoing participation in quality improvement and research activities within the Tory Trauma Program
Participate in other research projects as needed
Facilitate treatment groups
Document within Sunnycare for all clinical contact maintained as per professional and hospital requirements.
Qualifications/Skills
Certification in clinical psychology and neuropsychology from a CPA/APA approved program
Registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO) is required or eligibility for registration (i.e., supervised practice)
Completion of a 12 month internship
Minimum 2 years of clinical experience preferred
Be trained in 2 trauma focused therapeutic modalities and experience in treating PTSD
Competency in conducting neuropsychological testing independently and experience in assessing patients with traumatic brain injury
Training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, group facilitation skills, and other modalities (CPT, PET, ACT, MBCT, BA, MI)
Clinical experience with patients with traumatic brain injury
Clinical experience with a range of psychological disorders (PTSD, depression, anxiety disorders, severe and complex mental illness, personality disorders) preferred
Ability to use critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills to solve patient care issues
Able to provide clinical supervision
Psycho-diagnostic assessment and psychotherapy skills
Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
Ability to multi-task and manage ongoing projects in an efficient manner
Experience with quality improvement initiatives
Ability to establish an independent course of research investigation
Demonstrated program development and evaluation skills
Ability to work independently as well as within a collaborative environment.
