Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream - CLTA - German …, Toronto

Position Overview The Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures invites applications for a three‑year, full‑time, contractually limited term appointment (CLTA) at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, beginning on August 1, 2026.

Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate German language courses at all levels and deliver innovative second‑language instruction.

Prepare, deliver, and continually refine course curriculum and online materials.

Coordinate and mentor teaching assistants and course instructors; steward course materials and curriculum delivery.

Serve as coordinator of the German language sequence and assist with departmental administration.

Collaborate effectively with colleagues in undergraduate courses and programs.

Qualifications

Earned a PhD in German Studies (or related field) with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching.

Native or near‑native proficiency in German.

Teaching expertise in a degree‑granting undergraduate program, including course preparation and delivery, curriculum and online materials development.

Experience coordinating multi‑section language courses at beginner and intermediate levels.

Commitment to pedagogical inquiry and teaching‑related scholarly activity.

Strong evidence of teaching excellence (e.g., teaching dossier, evaluations, awards, conference presentations).

Compensation Salary range: $105,000 to $130,000 CAD per annum, depending on experience. Negotiations beyond this range considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
