Senior Financial Analyst / Senior Accountant 3 months, Toronto

Our Client is known to be the fourth largest diversified environmental company in North America providing waste management services from its platform of facilities throughout Canada and the US and they are seeking a Senior Financial Analyst / Senior Accountant to join them on a 3+ month contract. The role is in office full time located in Vaughan at Jane and Hwy 7.Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Senior Financial Analyst who will take ownership of full cycle accounting activities and provide day-to-day support to the Corporate Controller. You’ll be instrumental in catching up on processing, reconciling key accounts, and managing lease contracts and amortisation across the company. You’ll collaborate closely with various business units to ensure accurate, timely, and complete accounting records.Key Responsibilities

Corporate General Ledger&Month-End Close:

Execute full-cycle accounting for our corporate departments, ensuring accurate and timely recording of operating expenses and accruals. Lease Accounting (IFRS 16):

Manage lease accounting and tracking under IFRS 16 for the corporate portfolio, ensuring accurate amortization schedules and monthly entries. Intercompany Management:

Process, reconcile, and confirm intercompany transactions between corporate and field entities. Financial Consolidation:

Prepare the monthly consolidation, including eliminating entries and topside adjustments. Process Standardization:

Design and implement a standardized month-end corporate accrual process. System Integrity:

Oversee the financial system's period-end closing procedures. Balance Sheet Reconciliations:

Prepare and maintain comprehensive balance sheet reconciliations for corporate accounts, investigating and resolving variances promptly. Shared Service Reviews:

Review shared service reconciliations, such as bank reconciliations, accounts payable, and accounts receivable sub-ledgers to the general ledger. Corporate Transactions:

Ensure accurate recording of other corporate transactions, such as insurance and prepaid expenses Subledger Management:

Manage the lease subledger, including the addition and modification of leases as necessary. Audit Support:

Prepare audit working papers for annual external audits. Process Improvement:

Assist the Corporate Controller in refining accounting procedures and leveraging the ERP system to streamline month-end close cycle times and increase accuracy. Must Have

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required. Professional Designation:

CPA designation or active pursuit of a CPA is preferred. Accounting Experience:

4-6+ years of progressive general ledger accounting experience, with a background in participating in monthly close processes within fast-paced, dynamic environments. Technical Standards:

Strong working knowledge of IFRS and direct experience managing complex balance sheet reconciliations. Systems&Excel:

Experience with Workday is preferred and advanced Microsoft Excel skills (such as pivot tables and lookups). Detail Orientation:

Demonstrates thorough knowledge of relevant accounting methods and ensures absolute accuracy in the general ledger. Operational Excellence:

Focuses strongly on executing agreed-upon outcomes and ensures that key month-end close deadlines are met with precision. Proactivity:

Takes initiative to investigate financial discrepancies and solve practical accounting problems independently. Communication:
