**Maple View Lodge** **Invites applications for the position of:** **Position:** Restorative Aide **Status:** Permanent Full-Time **Hours of work:** 37.5 hours weekly **2024 OPSEU Salary Range:** $22.73 to $27.09 per hour **Location:** Maple View Lodge, Athens, Ontario **Union:** OPSEU 494 (Maple View Lodge) bargaining unit **POSITION SUMMARY** Reporting to the Resident Services Supervisor, the Restorative Aide in conjunction with the multidisciplinary health team is responsible for implementing and carrying out restorative interventions at Maple View Lodge. The Restorative Aide will intervene and apply the specific framework of a Nursing Restorative program should a resident decline in one of the activities of daily living. The Restorative Aide will share the prescribed restorative care program with the interdisciplinary health team. . The Restorative Aide will promote a vision within the home by advocating for residents to be independent in their activities of daily living as well as teach, coach and mentor staff on the importance of residents remaining independent for dignity and self efficacy. The Restorative Aide will keep a pulse on resident enrollment/ case load in conjunction with the RAI coordinator. #### **Education, Certification and Licenses** - A post-secondary diploma or degree with emphasis on rehabilitation such as; Physiotherapy Assistant, Kinesiology, Nutrition and Lifestyle Promotion, Athletic Therapy, Rehabilitation Services, Rehabilitation Science, Therapeutic Recreation or equivalent. - CPR and First Aid Certification required #### **Knowledge and Experience** - A minimum of two (2) years experience working in geriatric rehabilitation or Long Term Care. - Knowledge of anatomy and physiology in all activities of daily living. - Knowledge of and experience implementing restorative rehabilitation techniques and interventions that restore an elderly person’s baseline or desired level of functioning to promote general well-being. - Experience in developing exercise routines. - Knowledge of how chronic pain effects quality of life. - Experience incorporating fall prevention strategies. - Knowledge and ability to assess an individuals functional rehabilitation potential. - Knowledge of assistive devices. - Knowledge of the Cognitive Performance Scale, Activity of Daily Living score, Aggressive Behaviours Scale, and Depression Rating Scores. - An understanding of how rehabilitation services effect the funding model in Long Term Care, specifically RUG and CMI scores. - Best Practice Champion and/or experience in quality initiatives is considered an asset. #### **Skills & Abilities** - Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills. - Strong leadership and resident advocacy skills. - Strong interpersonal skills. - Strong organizational skills; detail oriented and able to prioritize multiple tasks and activities meeting conflicting priorities and timelines. - Ability to work independently as well as cohesively with the multidisciplinary care team. - Medical documentation experience with written reports and clinical evaluations. - Computer literate in relevant technologies including working knowledge of MS Office, LTC documentation systems e.g. Point Click Care, Point of Care and will be required to learn new technologies and tools as they evolve. **The Restorative Aide is expected to achieve the following competencies:** **Teamwork**: Works in collaboration with the multidisciplinary health care team as well as coaches and mentors relevant departments in carrying out restorative techniques to enhance resident independence within the activities of daily living. Demonstrates commitment to a healthy workplace culture and professional work attitude in all interactions with internal and external contacts. Is a team player who adds complimentary skills and contributes valuable ideas, opinions and feedback. Communicates openly, respectfully and professionally with the team and can be counted on to fulfill any commitments made to others on the team. This is distinctly different from those who withhold ideas, opinions, offer ideas or opinions that rarely add value to team discussions and have established a track record with many unmet commitments. **Analytical and Problem Solving**: Takes a proactive approach to anticipating and preventing problems. Possesses an aptitude for timely and creative problem solving. When problems occur; defines the problem, investigates obstacles, gathers relevant information, acts when appropriate or decides whether solving the problem should be a group decision, generates and analyzes alternate solutions, arrives at a workable solution, implements then evaluates the outcome. This differs from those who are not proactive, typically get surprised when problems occur, attempt to solve problems with the wrong people involved, push too quickly for solutions or generate solutions that are not viable. **Communication**: Communicates effectively, appropriately and professionally with the health care team members in a multi-disciplinary fashion within the home. Actively listens to co workers expressing concerns regarding nursing restorative programs, solicits feedback and adapts communication to others. Uses good judgement when identifying what to communicate to whom as well as the best way to accomplish the task. Speaks in a clear and credible manner, selecting the right tone for the situation and audience. . Regularly deals with matters of a confidential nature, within and/or outside the organization. The employee may act as the ‘public face’ of the organization on limited matters relating to the individual’s job functions. **Leadership and Accountability**: Models a vision within the home that supports residents to achieve their desired level of independence by promoting self efficacy. Models behaviours expected of others and inspires others to undertake challenging tasks and projections in relation to supporting resident independence through nursing restorative programming. Works independently and completes all required tasks in a timely manner without having to be reminded to do so. Prioritizes the needs of the residents and the Home This contrasts with the behaviour of individuals who lose sight of approaching deadlines, fail to fully accept ownership for commitments that have been made to others and or makes decisions to spend time in a self serving way which fails to place proper emphasis on organizational and resident needs. **Ability to Handle Difficult Situations**: Handles sensitive or difficult situations in a professional manner with patience and confidence. Remains clear-headed and focused on inspiring others to do the same. Remains objective in the face of strong emotions. Can acknowledge strong emotions without being unduly influenced by their intensity. This is a contrast to individuals who struggle to stay calm when others are highly emotional, retreat from difficult situation when time is of the essence and are unable to influence others to behave with some level of objectivity. **Public Relations**: Maintains a positive and professional image in all interactions with fellow LTC homes and external health service providers assisting in supporting residents to achieve their desired level of independence at Maple View Lodge. **SUMMARY OF POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:** **Under the Direction of the Resident Services Supervisor the Restorative Aide:** - Understands and utilizes the specific framework of a Nursing Restorative Program in a Long Term Care Home. - Works closely with nursing and the rehabilitation team in developing appropriate restorative techniques for a resident. This includes providing training and mentoring in Nursing Restorative techniques when needed. - Incorporates fall prevention strategies into delivery of care and shares with the health care team factors that may be contributing to falls and implements strategies to minimize fall risks. - In collaboration with the Physiotherapist or Registered staff, develops and communicates nursing restorative interventions with the multidisciplinary care team assisting residents in achieving their desired or baseline level of functioning promoting overall health and well-being. - Demonstrates appropriate usage of adaptive equipment. - Assesses resident eligibility for enrollment in a Nursing Restorative program on admission and on an on-going basis as required. - Reinforces good body mechanics during mobility exercises and all transfers. - Applies hands on support specific to an individual’s restorative needs and coach’s staff in safely carrying out the restorative techniques to enhance resident functionality. - Works collaboratively with the health care team to ensure proper documentation of restorative minutes. - Performs assessments in collaboration with the health care team to gather quantitative and qualitative data contributing to the development of restorative intervention pathways. - Identifies early signs of resident deviation from their baseline level of functioning and develops individual care protocols and interventions following the specific guidelines of a Restorative Program. - Incorporates group restorative programs such as; walking programs, communication programs , to provide residents with on-going opportunities to enhance independence in a group setting. - Implementation, documentation and evaluation of each resident’s individualized care requirements. - Documents and updates resident’s plan of care. - Works collaboratively with the RAI Coordinator to ensure documentation is accurate, current and completed in a timely manner consistent with Maple View Lodge’s policies and procedures. - Participates in continuing formal education to ensure most current, best practices are implemented. - Responsible for aligning best practices when assessing and developing restorative interventions. - Other related duties, as requested and required. #### **Legislative Requirements:** - Performs the …
