Responsibilities

Provide professional social work services and interventions, including psychotherapy, individual/family/group therapy, psychosocial assessment, risk assessment and management, crisis intervention and discharge planning, to clients with severe and persistent mental illness. Develop and implement creative treatment, recovery and therapy plans, and support services and programs responsive to clients’ needs following best practice and consistent with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW).Engage in client- and family-centered care and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and community service providers. Advocate on behalf of clients, families and caregivers for appropriate services and resources. Provide timely and comprehensive written assessments, treatment and discharge reports.Participate in teaching, education and supervision of social work students. Maintain appropriate documentation and data collection in accordance with hospital, college and legislative standards. Participate in education, presentations and psychoeducation for clients, families, service providers, the community and staff.Attend social work meetings, peer consultation, clinical consultation, committees, treatment care conferences and research activities. Participate in the development and delivery of education and presentations for clients, families, service providers, community and staff members. Maintain all requirements for registration with OCSWSSW and stay current on professional standards and hospital policies.Work in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group. Master’s degree in social work from an accredited university. Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a mental health setting. Members in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). Strong client- and family-centered approach. Understanding of recovery-based treatment and programs for clients with severe and persistent mental illness.Experience in individual, family and group therapy/intervention, crisis intervention, psychosocial assessment, risk assessment and management, discharge planning and liaison with community service providers; an asset. Knowledge, skills and training in concurrent disorders and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT); preferred.Knowledge of community resources, Mental Health Court, Ontario Review Board and applicable legislated acts (MHA, PHIPA, The Health Care Consent Act, etc.). Demonstrated thorough knowledge of the theories and practices of a professional social worker; ability to work independently and in a professional interdisciplinary team environment.Strong advocacy and conflict resolution skills. Strong organizational skills and work ethic. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Valid driver’s license. English level A- mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading and writing. Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset.Compensation
