Sports Instructor, Burnaby

Sports Instructor TheSportsInstructor will lead daily physical activity sessions and sports-based learning for elementary students enrolled in Horizon Summer School. Responsibilities include preparing age-appropriate games, teaching fundamental movement skills, introducing basic rules for a variety of sports, facilitating teamwork activities, and promoting physical literacy, safety, and confidence.

The participant will supervise active play, demonstrate exercises, lead warm-ups and cool-downs, and adapt activities for varying ability levels. They will support classroom-to-gym transitions, reinforce positive behaviour, and model sportsmanship and inclusion. The instructor will collaborate with other program staff to integrate health, wellness, and character education components into sports activities.

The youth employee will also assist with maintaining attendance and activity logs, preparing equipment, monitoring safety conditions, setting up and organizing play spaces, and helping coordinate end-of-program outdoor events or demonstrations. They will follow child-safety and first-aid protocols and contribute to program evaluation through feedback collection and participation documentation.

This role builds transferable skills in communication, leadership, planning, teamwork, problem solving, digital tool use, and youth engagement while supporting children’s physical and social development.

Work Requirements&Expectations Important— Please Read Before Applying

All candidates must be available to work full-time (Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM– 4:00 PM) for the entire 8-week contract.

Candidates who cannot commit to full-time, in-person attendance throughout the full employment period should not apply and will not be accepted.

All work is performed in person, primarily at our Burnaby location, with occasional activities at other venues within the Lower Mainland, BC.

Maintain a daily work log recording tasks completed, entry and exit times, and notable observations— full reporting procedures will be explained during onboarding.

Be present at the workplace every scheduled workday, arriving punctually and prepared to engage fully with team activities and assigned responsibilities.

Participate in mandatory on-the-job training provided during the employment period— prior experience in all areas is not required.

Attend a pre-employment interview as part of the selection process; shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview before a formal offer is extended.

Some activities may take place at partner locations or community venues within the Lower Mainland, BC.
