Competition No: 2025-276 Duration: Regular Part Time Salary: $31.52 – 32.88 – 34.25 – 35.61 – 37.09/hour Schedule: Special Notes: Normal for CUPE 23 Inside Division Collective Agreement Last Updated: 4/24/26 Our Parks, Recreation and Culture department is currently seeking a motivated individual who is passionate about working as Recreation Leader 1 in the Youth Recreation Services! Typical duties in this position include providing customer service; preparing and leading program plans for youth; assisting supervisor to schedule indoor and outdoor activities; resolving conflicts and situations involving patrons; promoting interest and participation in program activities and events; enforcing departmental policies and procedures; and ensuring required standards of behavior, safety and security are maintained. This position will involve some records keeping and preparation of reports related to activities and inventory, creating signs and promotional information, and assisting in the training and direction of staff and volunteers. Performs related work as required. Qualifications include completion of a two-year Community Recreation program from a recognized Community College and preferably some related experience, or completion of Grade 12 supplemented by courses in recreation and sound related community recreation experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and ability to build and maintain working relationships, along with the ability to organize and promote programs for various groups; experience working with youth who identify as part of the 2SLGTBQIA+ community or other marginalized groups is preferred. Ability to participate in the recruitment of and give guidance and instruction to auxiliary staff and contract instructors and to recruit, train, direct and evaluate volunteers. This position requires knowledge of recreational and social interests and various recreational activities such as summer services, sports and arts. The ideal candidate will further have knowledge of community youth resources and be able to connect youth to appropriate resources as needed. A valid BC Driver’s Licence (Class 5), First Aid Certificate, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate – Level C are required. A Class 4 Unrestricted Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is considered an asset. Please note that a Police Information Check may be required for this position. Schedule: 48 hours bi-weekly (0.68 FTE); Monday from 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM; Tuesday from 2:30 PM – 9:00 PM; Wednesday to Thursday from 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM and Friday from 2:30 PM – 9:00 PM The closing date for this competition has been extended until it is filled.
