Detailed Overview Under the administrative direction of the Manager, Clinical Operations, provides clinical leadership for Therapeutic Recreation Services by planning, implementing, and evaluating services in a variety of program and service areas in residential care. This position is responsible for the day‑to‑day and professional functions of the Therapeutic Recreation service, including preparing and adjusting work schedules, supervising staff, providing clinical guidance and advice, and delivering clinical services to residents in accordance with the Therapeutic Recreation Standards of Practice. Reviews and develops policies, procedures and quality standards for clinical practice. Responsibilities - Coordinate day‑to‑day therapeutic recreation activities to ensure optimal use of resources, including preparing work schedules, maintaining waitlists, and resolving workplace issues. - Supervise designated staff through delegation, audits, performance evaluations, training planning, and in‑service organization. - Provide clinical services to residents by assessing problems, formulating goals, planning and implementing treatment plans, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team. - Record resident treatment programs and progress, maintaining documentation standards and conducting chart audits. - Participate on interdisciplinary, interdepartmental, and professional practice committees, providing input and communicating needs and concerns. - Plan new or existing resident programs by identifying service needs, providing input to management, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team. - Review and develop policies, procedures and quality standards for therapeutic recreation clinical practice, maintaining manuals and communicating revisions. - Promote quality management activities by monitoring and evaluating the effect of changes in resident care practice and generating recommendations. - Ensure staff receive required training for orientation and supervision of students, and participate in student education and evaluation as required. - Participate in the recruitment of new staff, acting as an interview panel member and making hiring recommendations. - Provide education and in‑service training to community agencies, residents, families, and the interdisciplinary team. - Maintain knowledge of current developments in evidence‑based therapeutic recreation practice by reviewing literature and recommending new applications. - Participate in the development of new programs and services, contributing to operational plans and objectives. - Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications - Education: Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation. - Experience: Three years of recent related experience in therapeutic recreation, including one year of recent supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. - Eligibility for membership in the British Columbia Therapeutic Recreation Association. - Successful completion of Foodsafe Level 1. - Class IV BC Driver's Licence (restricted), as required. Skills and Abilities - Effective communication, both verbal and written. - Independent and team orientation. - Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships. - Ability to operate related equipment. - Ability to role‑model and teach. - Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work and take initiative. - Ability to promote and manage change. - Conflict resolution and problem‑solving skills. - Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
