Sr. Engineer - Dam Safety Regional Planning Engineer Number of positions: 1 Job Location: Edmonds B03 Employment type: Permanent Region: Lower Mainland Hours of work: Full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) Flexible Work Role: Hybrid Annual salary: $ 109,700.00 - 138,700.00 What you'll do As the Dam Safety Regional Planning Engineer you’ll report to the Team Lead, Planning & Regulatory and work in a team of 12 engineering professionals to successfully deliver the regulatory compliance and asset management components of BC Hydro’s Dam Safety Program. Key Duties Responsible for management of dam-related assets (e.g., dams, spillways and flood discharge passages and devices, generation water passages and control devices, reservoir shoreline and slope works and monitoring) in an assigned region. - Develops and maintains the capital plan for Dam Safety assets within the assigned region; identifies new capital project needs, develops project scope and planning level cost estimate, consults with project execution resources. - Plans and oversees the assigned region’s program of engineering investigations into actual and potential deficiencies at dams. - Supports the development and maintenance of a system-wide Dam Safety capital plan and risk reduction strategy. - Develops facility and river system strategies and, in collaboration with Stations Asset Planning, prepares individual Facility Asset Plans; - Maintains and updates individual investments that make up the Dam Safety component of BC Hydro’s Ten-Year Capital Plan; plans and initiates capital improvement projects; serves in the role of Planner for selected projects; and, where warranted, organizes, engages and manages project Advisory Boards. - Supports the identification and prioritization of preventive, condition-based and corrective maintenance requirements; - Contributes to the planning and oversight of the annual maintenance plan; Oversees activities within the assigned region to comply with the BC Dam Safety Regulation, including: - Initiates and manages Dam Safety Reviews in accordance with the regulatory schedule; - Initiates, manages and writes updates to Dam Operations, Maintenance and Surveillance (OMS) Manuals in accordance with the regulatory schedule; - Ensures all necessary applications for modifications to dams are submitted and leaves to commence are received prior to commencement of work and, on achievement of In-Service status, submission of required engineering fit-for service and fit- for-purpose assurances; - Supports the Principal Engineer, Regulatory to ensure that all other required documents and applications in the assigned region are submitted in accordance with regulatory requirements, including inspection reports, annual compliance reports and instrumentation plans. Maintains strong internal relationships with other BC Hydro business units and departments, including Dam Safety Surveillance, Generation Asset Management, Generating Stations Maintenance Planning, Engineering, Indigenous Relations, Program and Contract Management, and Project Delivery – Dam Safety Projects & Programs. Works closely with Dam Safety Engineers, Dam Safety Technologists, Stations Regional Asset Managers, Stations Investment Planning Engineers, and Stations Field Operations personnel who are assigned to the same geographical region to develop comprehensive and optimized asset plans. What you bring - Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other discipline relevant to dam safety; - Registered or eligible to register as a P.Eng. with the Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC) - Minimum 8 years of relevant experience related to the design, operation, maintenance, surveillance and/or asset management of dams, hydroelectric facilities and/or large civil infrastructure; breadth across this range of experience will be favorably regarded - Experience considering risk and uncertainty in business decision making. - Excellent written and verbal communications skills - Effective presentation skills, including the ability to effectively convey complex engineering and dam safety issues to diverse audiences What we offer - A comprehensive benefits package - A minimum of 15 paid vacation days - A lifetime pension - Flexible work model, depending on your role type - Training and development courses For more information on the benefits we offer, visit bchydro.com/perks.
