Senior Engineering Manager, AI/ML (Burnaby)

About the Role As Senior Machine Learning Engineering Manager for the Core AI/ML team, you will lead the design and delivery of the machine learning systems and frameworks that power Remitly's next generation of products. Key Responsibilities - Lead and grow a high‑performing team of Machine Learning Engineers and Data Scientists, guiding them through end‑to‑end ML system cycles. - Partner with Product, Analytics, and Engineering teams to define the vision, strategy, and roadmap for AI/ML applications. - Implement best practices for MLOps, including automated retraining, drift detection, CI/CD, and observability. - Establish technical standards, documentation, and design review processes to ensure quality and maintainability. - Mentor engineers, foster collaboration, and create an inclusive, supportive culture. - Contribute to strategic planning and influence the company’s approach to AI investments and innovation. Qualifications - 10+ years of experience in software or machine learning engineering, with proven record of delivering ML production systems. - 3+ years of experience managing or leading technical teams in applied ML or data‑focused domains. - Deep understanding of the Machine Learning lifecycle—data ingestion, feature engineering, model training and deployment, A/B testing, and monitoring. - Strong proficiency in Python and familiarity with frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or scikit‑learn. - Experience with large‑scale customer‑facing ML systems. - Experience designing and maintaining cloud‑based systems on AWS, GCP, or Azure. - Expertise in Personalization, NLP, Causal Inference, Deep Learning, or Knowledge Graphs is a plus. - Proven ability to balance technical leadership with strategic thinking. - Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical partners. - Passion for developing people and empowering teams to achieve meaningful impact. - Must be willing to work out of Vancouver, BC, Canada engineering site. Compensation and Benefits Starting base salary range: $200,000-$250,000. In Canada, employees are shareholders; equity is part of the total compensation plan.
