Our Parks, Recreation and Culture department is currently seeking a motivated individual who is passionate about working as a Recreation Leader 1 in the Youth Recreation Services! Responsibilities

Providing customer service Preparing and leading program plans for youth Assisting the supervisor to schedule indoor and outdoor activities Resolving conflicts and situations involving patrons Promoting interest and participation in program activities and events Enforcing departmental policies and proceduresEnsuring required standards of behavior, safety and security are maintained Maintaining records and preparing reports related to activities and inventory Creating signs and promotional information Assisting in the training and direction of staff and volunteers Performing related work as requiredQualifications

Completion of a two-year Community Recreation program from a recognized Community College, or completion of Grade 12 supplemented by courses in recreation and sound related community recreation experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Strong communication skills and ability to build and maintain working relationships.Ability to organize and promote programs for various groups. Experience working with youth who identify as part of the 2SLGTBQIA+ community or other marginalized groups is preferred. Ability to participate in recruitment of and give guidance and instruction to auxiliary staff and contract instructors, and to recruit, train, direct and evaluate volunteers.Knowledge of recreational and social interests and various recreational activities such as summer services, sports and arts. Knowledge of community youth resources and ability to connect youth to appropriate resources as needed. A valid BC Driver’s Licence (Class 5), First Aid Certificate, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate – Level C are required.A Class 4 Unrestricted Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is considered an asset.
