Project Engineer (P&C; Centric) Pay Rate: $123.08/hour, depending on experience | Contract Length: 1 Year (High chance of extension for the right candidate.) | Location: Burnaby, British Columbia Raise is currently hiring a Project Engineer (P&C; Centric) on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada. Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable. Description The Project Engineer (P&C; Centric) in this role will be responsible for managing the technical scope, schedule, and cost of medium to highly complex projects, with a strong emphasis on Protection and Control systems for transmission, distribution, and generation assets. This role acts as a bridge between high-level project management and detailed P&C; engineering design, ensuring all solutions are protected, reliable, and compliant with all technical standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., NERC). Responsibilities Develop Safe Solutions: Create safe engineering solutions by developing designs, analyzing/resolving problems, and interpreting specifications on medium to highly complex assignments. Meet Objectives: Achieve safety, cost, quality, and time goals by: Proposing changes to plans and estimated costs. Recommending payment for contractor work. Preparing progress reports. Coordinating work schedules. Resolve Complex Problems: Handle highly technical and unusual design/field engineering problems through independent studies, analysis, and exercising independent judgment to recommend safe engineering designs. Contribute to Practice: Participate in engineering practice by: Conducting independent studies/analysis. Contributing to the development of technical standards. Providing guidance and advice to other engineering professionals. Customer Service: Deliver exceptional service by: Defining the scope of services: Establishing basic design criteria with the client. Approving related technical documentation. Assessing/reporting on work progress. Decision Making: Make complex technical decisions and recommendations, including establishing design bases, criteria, concepts, and managing engineering/geoscience resources. Qualifications 10 years of experience in a relevant engineering field or equivalent. 4 years of working experience in leading or coordinating multi-discipline design teams. Good working experience with typical protection and control components including protection relays, control and automation devices, RTU, SCADA, RAS, and other tele protection devices. Good working knowledge of NERC requirements. Solid electric utility engineering background with the ability to think from a transmission system and operations perspective as well as an ability to understand the interactions and priorities of multi-discipline projects. Good working knowledge of project management principles and roles. Advanced written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal, influencing, and conflict resolution skills. Nice to have: Good working knowledge of design, substations, protection, control, and telecom systems is an asset. Education and Skills: Bachelor's or advanced degree in related field (Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Control Systems, or Computer Engineering preferred). Professional Engineer registered with EGBC; will be required to provide proof of permit to practice and be registered with EGBC when hired. Familiarity with CAD systems and drawing standards. Ability to use standard industry design/analysis software. Intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, and Power Point). Additional Information Candidates in this role will be working a hybrid schedule (Mon, Thu, Fri) in the office. Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 laptop computer for the duration of the assignment. Every contractor must supply their own smartphone to gain access to the organization’s network.
