We are currently seeking a Software Development Manager to join our
Engineering team for Draft, our AI‑powered legal drafting product. This role is available to candidates local to our Burnaby hub, where you will be expected to be in office minimum twice per week on our Anchor Days. Responsibilities - Collaborate with the triad (Designer+Product+Development Manager) to understand business challenges, identify impactful opportunities, and craft a roadmap for the team. - Work with your team on designing technical solutions. - Provide feedback on code reviews, architecture documents, and support members in making technical decisions. - Act as a contributing developer—review code extensively or ship code. - Hold regular 1:1 meetings with direct reports to support their career growth and development goals. - Participate in hiring to grow the engineering team. - Review code contributed by your team or other Clio developers, offering guidance based on your expertise. Qualifications - Demonstrated success in people leadership in software development, particularly with large‑scale SaaS products. - Strong background in hands‑on software development. - Diverse base of knowledge that enables the team to solve complex technical problems. - Ability to describe successful projects and lessons learned from failed projects. - Demonstrated ability to hire the best and brightest engineers in a rapid‑paced market, and to coach, develop, and retain engineering talent. - Energized by both technical work and contributing to the career growth of the team. - Strong opinions that are loosely held, fostering that attitude in others. - Ability to provide honest, actionable feedback and to encourage reciprocity. - Roadmap creation skills with an adaptable mindset in a constantly changing world. - Growth mindset toward process improvement and new technologies, especially AI. - Bonus: Philosophy on what makes for great software development teams. - Bonus: Experience with AI products at scale. - Bonus: Experience with Ruby on Rails or Python.
