Industrial Painter App 5-6 (Burnaby)

Job Summary We are seeking a skilled Industrial Painter App 5-6 to join our manufacturing team. The Craft Employee – Industrial Painter Apprentice level 5 to 6 is a fully contributing tradesperson capable of performing abrasive blasting and coating application tasks to industry standards. This role supports quality control activities, basic documentation, and provides mentorship to junior employees. Applicants must be a member in valuable standing with the IUPAT DC38 Union. Duties - Technical Proficiency: Executes surface preparation and coating tasks to specification. - Quality Awareness: Understands inspection requirements and common defects. - Leadership Support: Assists in mentoring Level 1 to 4 employees. - Planning & Communication: Participates in daily planning and hazard identification. - Mix coatings to correct ratios and apply coatings by hand to industry standards. - Perform abrasive blasting with minimal supervision. - Identify primary surface preparation standards (e.g., SSPC / ISO). - Operate basic QC equipment (DFT, DPM, profile, LV). - Identify visual defects post-blast or post-application. - Assist with equipment setup and job readiness. Qualifications - Minimum hours of industrial blasting and coating experience to qualify for Apprentice level 5 or 6. - Ability to operate and maintain blasting and coating equipment. - Display strong surface preparation skills, coating application knowledge, equipment .troubleshooting, and higher safety competence. - Basic understanding of quality control processes and documentation. - High school diploma or equivalent preferred. - Able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. - Valid drivers license (if required). Preferred (Nice to Have): - Experience working on complex industrial or shutdown projects. - Familiarity with advanced coating systems or specialty applications. - Previous leadership or crew lead experience. - Additional safety or quality control certifications.
