Clio is seeking a Software Development Manager to join our Engineering team focused on the Clio Billing System (CBS) product. The role works in the PST and MST time zones in Canada, primarily located in the Burnaby or Calgary office hubs. Managers will be expected to work in the office at least twice per week on anchor days. Responsibilities
Partner with cross‑functional stakeholders (Rev‑ops, Sales‑ops, CS‑ops, Marketing, Finance, Product) to understand challenges and define pragmatic solutions. Lead roadmap creation and execution for the team, guiding projects from inception to delivery while focusing on AI application throughout the development lifecycle. Design and enforce solid technical solutions, coaching the team on architecture, planning, and code quality. Actively contribute as a developer on projects, including requirements, design, implementation, and reviews. Conduct effective one‑to‑one meetings to support team members’ career growth and development goals. Participate in hiring, interviewing, and onboarding of new engineers. Encourage a culture of honest, actionable feedback and adaptability to changing environments. Qualifications
Proven people leadership in software development, particularly with large‑scale SaaS products. Strong background in hands‑on software development. Experience aligning diverse stakeholders around pragmatic solutions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for translating complex technical concepts to non‑technical audiences. Deep technical knowledge enabling the team to solve complex problems and learn from both successes and failures. Growth mindset focused on process improvement and emerging technologies, especially AI. Track record of hiring, coaching, and retaining top engineering talent in a fast‑paced environment. Active engagement in both technical work and team development, fostering cooperative attitudes. Preferred Qualifications & Bonus Points
Philosophy on building effective software development teams. Experience with Ruby on Rails. Experience with subscription, billing, and quoting systems at scale. Experience with Stripe Billing, other third‑party subscription/billing solutions, or Salesforce integration. Background in product management or business analysis. Compensation & Benefits
Competitive, equitable salary ranging from CAD$176,000 to CAD$220,000 to CAD$264,000, with additional bands for other regions. Top‑tier health, dental, and vision insurance.
