Description
Overview The Warehouse Operations Manager II is responsible for the efficient day‑to‑day 24/7 operation of the warehouse with particular emphasis on the management of the warehouse personnel and the implementation of warehouse action plans. This role manages a warehouse that totals between 500,000 and 1,000,000+ square feet. Responsibilities include tracking and recording equipment hours, ensuring equipment maintenance schedules are followed, and conducting employee meetings. The position reports to the General Manager of the Distribution Center.

Responsibilities Operations Management

Develop a strategic plan in conjunction with the General Manager to ensure efficient and cost‑effective operation and utilization of the facility.

Ensure efficient shipping and receiving work schedules to meet operational goals.

Direct the operations of warehouse supervisors and personnel.

Oversee all inbound and outbound shipments to ensure they are correct and carried out in a timely fashion.

Audit compliance of both internal and external SOPs.

Ensure that equipment is utilized in the most efficient manner.

Review the daily work objective and determine productivity requirements to produce during the shift to meet overall building objectives.

Partner with other leaders to balance labor, ensuring appropriate levels of staffing in regards to daily workload.

Match the skill and background of personnel to work required.

Conduct analysis of workload compared to labor hours and equipment.

Plan long‑term labor needs based on sales, forecasts, and historical data.

Make recommendations to the General Manager on programs to improve warehouse operations.

Financials

Understand how day‑to‑day decisions impact financial outcomes.

Be open to learning financial aspects of the business including budgeting, forecasting, reading GL, Flash, and P&L.

Run productivity and labor reports to analyze gaps in performance.

Employee Relations / Development

Ensure daily pre‑shift meetings cover previous productivity, operational problems, forecasted workload, and any other pertinent company information.

Ensure proper staffing and support hiring for all facility operations.

Ensure all new employees are properly onboarded; complete required paperwork and follow a structured training schedule.

Produce and effectively communicate department goals and individual performance goals that ensure the facility achieves operational success.

Manage and maintain good human resources practices with direct reports, and adhere to established corporate and departmental policies and procedures.

Work with the General Manager and Human Resources to resolve employee relation issues, disciplinary actions, problem resolution, and terminations.

Provide feedback, coaching, guidance, and recognition to enhance skill development.

Play an active role in employee development and talent selection.

Act as a role model for the department in support of corporate purpose, vision, and values.

Provide regular coaching and feedback on performance, prepare and present formal performance appraisals, and make recommendations and approve annual compensation increases.

Exhibit a commitment to self‑development by staying current on information, tools, and systems.

Travel to other warehouses and participate in department or company meetings, as necessary.

Safety and Security

Ensure the safe, clean, and efficient operation of the warehouse to meet service standards.

Actively support and participate in all safety initiatives in the facility.

Implement safety and sanitation schedules that ensure facility compliance with corporate, OSHA, FDA, AIB, or ASI standards.

Perform safety observations to coach employees on safety procedures.

Implement necessary improvements to procedures and facility to prevent reoccurring accidents.

Prevent associate incidents and injuries by overseeing accident investigations, assessing root cause analysis, and implementing necessary improvements.

Manage equipment and coordinate maintenance of equipment with local vendors.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related field preferred.

7+ years of supervisory experience in a 500,000 sq. ft. warehouse or distribution environment.

Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (Manhattan preferred).

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Working knowledge of warehouse / mechanical equipment.

Working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, HAZMAT, FDA regulations and willingness to become certified in one or more of these areas as necessary.

Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.

Ability to handle changing priorities and use good judgment in stressful situations.

Experience with seasonal work forces is a plus, but not required.

Experience with or desire to learn performance metrics, process improvement, and Lean/Six Sigma tools.

Excellent talent management and team building skills.

Excellent verbal, non‑verbal, and written communication skills.

Excellent customer service skills specifically with external clients.

Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.

Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Ability and availability to work irregular or extended hours including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed by the customer.

Must be able to stand/walk for up to 10–12 hours.

Lift and move totes up to 50 pounds.

Regular bending, lifting, stretching and reaching both below the waist and above the head.

Walking in the facility and around area with great frequency; facilities are over a quarter mile in length.

Should be able to work in environments with variable noise levels, lighting conditions, and temperature variation and access all areas of the building without limitations.

We are excited to share the base salary range for this position is $83,241.60– $110,988.80. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, targeted at 7.5%. NFI takes into consideration applicants’ qualifications, experience, education, and geographic location when determining a starting rate of pay.
