Middle School PE & Wellness: Short-Term Contract (Calgary)

Calgary Arts Academy is currently seeking applications for a temporary teaching position for the 2026/2027 school year (August 2026- December 2026). This short-term contract is for a Physical Education and Wellness specialist. The role involves teaching all Year 4-9 students in supporting their physical literacy and well-being. Calgary Arts Academy, an innovative and progressive Kindergarten to Year 12 Alberta Public Charter school. As the only school of its kind, Calgary Arts Academy engages children through Arts Immersion to become confident learners and spirited citizens. Teachers at Calgary Arts Academy have a passion for the arts and experience in one or more artistic disciplines. Our unique approach delivers the Alberta curriculum across disciplines through the immersion of the five fine arts: music, visual art, dance, drama, and literary art. Qualifications - Minimum of a bachelor's degree in education - Valid Alberta Interim or Permanent Teaching Certificate - Experience working with middle school aged children in an educational setting is advantageous - Experience in arts education or a strong background in one or more of the fine arts - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - Critical thinking and problem solving skills - Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, families and students - Strong organizational and time management skills - Commitment to promoting physical activity and wellness among youth while fostering an inclusive environment - Adaptability and openness to feedback - Passion for continuous professional development - Experience teaching physical education or coaching sports strongly preferred - Ability to implement lessons that are engaging, creative and flexible with utmost care given to student safety - Enthusiasm for participating in a middle school athletics program (organizing and coaching a variety of extra-curricular team sports) You may be asked to provide practicum evaluation reports, teaching evaluations, and/or recent skilled letters of reference.
