We are looking for a forward-thinking, highly organized and hands-on Safety Officer to join our dynamic and energetic team. A manager, a leader, who thrives in leading by example, has a can-do attitude, who supports & partners with our transportation and safety team in coaching mentoring, and training Drivers across Canada. This role also ensures that the Pro-formance Intermodal Inc. fleet is operating in the safest and most effective and efficient manner and is compliant with all transportation legislation and company policies and procedures. This role will oversee compliance, driver training, provincial regulations, licensing, and HOS issues, while reporting on key metrics and implementing the company’s safety plan. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Safety & Compliance - Leads and promotes a culture where Health & Safety is the #1 priority. - Holds overall responsibility for full compliance with transportation legislation. •Operates within, and ensures full compliance, with the Code of Business Conduct, Transportation Safety Plan, company policies and procedures and all statutes and legislation governing the workplace. - Knowledge of industry laws and regulations, including DOT, OSHA, WHIMIS, TDG and Hazmat and FMSCA - Upholds the development and implementation of preventative programs to ensure compliance. - Implements improved operational processes that enhance capabilities to meet/exceed service standards. - Ensures organizational adherence and accountability to standard operating procedures. - Evaluates and trains drivers and on safe operation of equipment - Develops and maintains driver scorecard(s) in conjunction with the operations team - Participates in the new driver hiring process Operational Excellence - Holds responsibility and ownership for the company’s National Safety Code safety ratings, addressing issues related to the fleet, reporting fleet data and statistics, approving and processing improvements to fleet compliance. - Develops and provides training to company drivers and owner operators - Responsible for Hours-of-Service monitoring and training. - Conducts root cause investigations on all accidents and any issues reported with respect to the National Safety Code. Documents investigation and root cause analysis information. Follow up accordingly to address the issue and implement preventative and corrective measures. - Leads vehicle accident reporting - Oversees the execution of standard operating procedures and regulations within the company’s safety plan and company policies. - Manages the fleet Drug and Alcohol program for US and Canada. - Develops and maintains strong relationships with PFI staff and Owner Operators. - Leads the tracking and reporting of current and future metrics and KPIs, including the development and implementation of a monthly scorecard. - Continuously grows and develops operational knowledge and leadership capabilities by participating in professional development opportunities. Keeps informed of leading-edge advances and recent and emerging trends in the logistics and transportation safety industry by reviewing the latest industry literature (books, trade journals, online articles) and participating in industry associations and events. KEY REQUIREMENTS - Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a transportation environment. · Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Department of Transportation, and Federal/Provincial Motor Carrier regulations. - Knowledge of current Transportation Industry’s requirements and National Safety Code requirements. - Knowledge of COR requirements and auditing preferred - Understanding of US/Canada driver fleet requirements · Proficient in Carrier Profile · Proficient in traffic tickets · Knowledgeable in WCB · Knowledge of IFTA/Carbon Tax · Knowledge of PIP / CTPAT · Experienced in dealing with accidents and claims investigation - Experience working with company drivers, owner operators and third-party carriers. - Approachable, positive demeanor with a hands-on and team-oriented work style - Strong interpersonal skills including leadership, conflict resolution and team building abilities . • Proven ability to direct a team working in a fast-paced transportation environment to ensure accuracy, compliance, and a team culture of excellence. - Demonstrates a positive and professional attitude with a hands-on and team-oriented work style. - Ability to update and revise Quality Management Processes and Procedures as required - Operation and Hours of service experience in accordance with E.L.D. legislation - Post-secondary education in Transportation, Operations, Logistics, or related field preferred. - Analytical; logical thinker with ability to think two steps ahead and successfully analyze different pieces of information and put them together like a puzzle. - Proven ability to effectively prioritize workflow to ensure deadlines are met. Able to adapt to shifting priorities. - Proven analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to quickly understand and identify issues and implement innovative solutions. - Records management, report, and document preparation. - Confident decision maker. - Excellent customer service abilities/skills. - Commitment to health and safety in the workplace. - Knowledge of the logistics, supply chain and/or transportation industry. - Embraces change and has a continuous improvement philosophy. - Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. - Strong interpersonal skills including leadership, conflict resolution and team building abilities. •Working knowledge of transportation management, financial and other key technologies. - Microsoft Office skills with an emphasis on Excel. - Working knowledge of Port-pro, Axon, Motive is an asset. - Class 1 CDL license preferred - Experience as a certified Class I driver and or instructor an asset Salary: Based on experience We thank all the candidates who are interested in the position.
