We are currently accepting applications for a permanent part-time/full-time (0.8 to 1.0 FTE) Educational Audiologist to join our Low Incidence team at our Child Development Centre. Please note that the annual schedule is 10.25 months.

This position has an immediate start date.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate as a member of a multidisciplinary professional team for the purpose of meeting the hearing needs of students and children.
  • Provide training about hearing, hearing loss, and other auditory disorders for school personnel, students, and parents to facilitate a better understanding of the impact of hearing loss on language, learning, literacy, and social development
  • Assess school and classroom acoustics for the purposes of listening and learning and provide recommendations where appropriate
  • Provide support to school staff with regards to the proper use of personal hearing technology (hearing aids, cochlear implants, personal FM/DM systems)
  • Support curricular and non-curricular auditory access through acoustical recommendations, technologies and strategies
  • Use knowledge of provincial funding programs and community supports to assist families in obtaining equipment (Alberta Aids to Daily Living, Non-Insured Health Benefits, Jordan's Principal) for use at school and home
  • Collaborate and consult with community audiologists and physicians regarding the audiologic and educational management of students with hearing loss
  • Provide consultation to schools in regard to the selection, purchase, installation and maintenance of audiologic equipment
  • Conduct classroom in-services to facilitate peer understanding of hearing loss, hearing assistive equipment and allows other students to ask questions about hearing loss and hearing equipment
  • Participate in the IEP to assist in the development of educational recommendations, including communication accommodations and assistance with transition planning
  • Provide counseling to parents, students and school staff related to audiologic findings, hearing loss impact, and amplification benefit
  • Provide consultation and in-services to parents, students, and school personnel regarding hearing health care including topics such as room acoustics and hearing conservation.
  • Determine how the hard of hearing student's personal technology can best be used with existing classroom technology (e.g. iPad, computers, etc.)
  • Educate hard of hearing students about their hearing loss and related technologies
  • Explore, with students, their acceptance and attitude towards their hearing loss

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Audiology
  • Proof of registration with Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA)
  • Experience working in educational audiology is preferred
  • Knowledge of ethical guidelines as outlined by ACSLPA and CASLPA
  • Familiarity with range of cochlear implants, hearing aids, and DM system technology and equipment
  • A reliable vehicle, auto insurance with a minimum $2,000,000.00 liability and driver's license is required
  • Must have professional liability insurance.

Pre-Requisite Security Clearance Documentation:

  • Successful candidates must provide us with a valid 'Calgary Police Check with Vulnerable Sector' dated within 3 months prior to their start date
  • 'Intervention Record Check through Alberta Child Services' is also required, however, we can support you with completing this during your onboarding
