Field Archaeologist, Calgary

We're Hiring: Intermediate Archaeologist Fort St. John, BC (preferred) or Calgary, AB (for the right candidate) Full-time Synergy Land & Environmental Services is growing and we're looking for an experienced Intermediate Archaeologist who enjoys field leadership, hands-on assessments, and working across diverse project environments. This role suits someone confident running field programs, mentoring junior staff, and engaging respectfully with Indigenous communities. What You'll Do • Lead and supervise archaeological field assessments • Identify, record, and catalog archaeological and traditional use sites • Conduct preliminary and post-impact reconnaissance and impact assessments • Uphold strong health and safety standards • Support project coordination and delivery • Liaise professionally with First Nations • Mentor and oversee junior field staff What You Bring • Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Archaeology or Anthropology • 3+ years of archaeological field experience (BC and/or Alberta) • Proven experience leading field programs • First Aid & H2S certification • Valid Class 5 driver's licence • Strong physical fitness and comfort working in remote environments • Willingness to travel and work flexible schedules • Canadian citizen or permanent resident Nice to Have • GPS / GIS familiarity • Lithic analysis and site cataloging experience • ATV / UTV operation • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team Working Conditions • Seasonal weekend and holiday work • Long field days (often 10+ km walking) • Camp-based and non-standard schedules Why Synergy • Health & dental benefits • Group RRSP (after one year) • Short- and long-term disability coverage • Tuition reimbursement • Professional membership support • Generous paid time off • Competitive compensation based on experience Interested in joining a national, multidisciplinary consulting firm with strong values and a practical, field-driven culture?
