See Adding Application Attachments for support. - Copy of Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate - Practicum evaluation reports and/or Teaching evaluations as applicable Note: Practicum/Teaching evaluations and reference letters must be signed and on institution letterhead. Unsigned letters and evaluations will not be accepted. References: Applicants who are considered for hire will be asked to provide references: - Teachers who have fewer than five (5) years of teaching experience will be asked to provide three (3) email addresses for current or recent supervisors in an educational setting. This can include partner/cooperating teachers. - Teachers who have five (5) or more years of teaching experience will be asked to provide one (1) email address for their current or most recent supervisor in an educational setting. Eligibility Position Description Responsibilities Under the guidance of the Principal and in compliance with the Education Act and CBE regulations: - Establishes clear objectives and outlines for courses of study, following curriculum guidelines or requirements of Alberta Education, and communicates these objectives to students. Prepares for assigned classes, and demonstrates written evidence of preparation upon request. Prepares materials for learning, and classrooms for activities, as appropriate. - Instructs using a variety of instructional approaches appropriate for grade level, student needs and program focus. Plans and conducts activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate. Assigns lessons and corrects homework. - Observes and evaluates students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health. Prepares, administers, and grades a variety of student evaluative tools such as projects, tests, assignments in order to evaluate students' progress. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct student records as required. - Establishes and enforces rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order and safety among the students for whom they are responsible, under the guidance of the Principal. Enforces all administrative policies and rules governing students. - Meets with other professionals to discuss individual students' needs and progress. Confers with parents or guardians, other teachers, counselors, and administrators in order to discuss children's progress and resource needs, and to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems, as appropriate. - Confers with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning, following approved curricula. Collaborates with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of school programs. Attends professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence. Attends staff meetings, and serves on staff committees as required. - Prepares students for later grades by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks. Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests. Prepares and implements remedial programs for students requiring extra help. Instructs and monitors students in the use and care of equipment and materials, in order to prevent injury and damage. Provides special needs students with assistive devices, supportive technology, and assistance accessing facilities such as restrooms, as necessary. - Plans and supervises class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities, as appropriate, and guides students in learning from such activities. Uses computers, multi-media, and other equipment and materials to support the learning process. Organizes and supervises recreational and other activities as appropriate, to promote physical, mental, and social development. Sponsors extracurricular activities such as clubs, student organizations, and academic contests, as appropriate. Performs supervisory duties, as assigned, such as hall, cafeteria and playground monitoring, and bus loading and unloading. - Plans assignments for Education Assistants, Special Education and other classroom support staff as appropriate, and assists the Principal in their supervision and evaluation of performance. - Performs other related tasks as appropriate, including organizing materials, displaying students' work, as assigned Qualifications Education and Experience - Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate - Bachelor of Education Degree or equivalent recognized by Alberta Education - Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and lesson design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of student learning - Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation - Knowledge and awareness of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, human migrations, ethnicity, and cultures - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. Demonstrated Skills and Competencies - Confidence, skill, knowledge and understanding of differentiated instruction, student engagement, and assessment practices - Robust work ethic - Ability to relate well with students, staff and parents - An ethic of service to students, colleagues, and community - Strong interpersonal skills combined with the ability to create positive relationships and establish rapport - Trustworthiness and integrity - Commitment to the CBE Policy-Governance model - Ability to articulate a coherent understanding of educational aims - Commitment to fostering collaborative working relationships - Ability to manage professional learning time and be a self-starter - Commitment to personal lifelong learning - Commitment to the lifelong quest for self-understanding - Commitment to strengthening communication skills.
