Description Electrical & Software Engineering in the Schulich School of Engineering invites applications for a Undergraduate Research Assistant. This Part-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 3 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension. This position reports to the Principal Investigator and supports ongoing research activities for a three-year Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Grant project in the Schulich School of Engineering called Investigating the tensions and harmonies between engineering student identity and queer identity. This is a STEM education-focused project that uses both qualitative and quantitative methods to examine the experiences of queer students in different STEM faculties at the University of Calgary. The Undergraduate Research Assistant will work collaboratively with a research team to support data analysis and knowledge mobilization activities. Familiarity with queer theories and experiences is an asset for this role. The position is a temporary appointment beginning in June, 2026, working 24 hours per week for 12 weeks. Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to): Research Support - Maintain research data and files to support project accuracy and integrity; - Conduct literature reviews and summarize findings to support ongoing research initiatives; - Assist with qualitative and quantitative data analysis under supervision of the PI; - Maintain accurate and organized records related to research activities; - Transcribe interviews with accuracy and attention to detail; - Ensure confidentiality and secure handling of participant information and research materials. Knowledge Mobilization - Prepare presentation materials, briefing notes, and communication documents; - Assist with editing and formatting research documents and publications; - Assist in preparing conference presentations. Administrative and Project Support - Assist in tracking research activities and deliverables; - Attend team meetings and contribute to project planning and discussions; - Perform other related duties or research support activities as assigned. Qualifications / Requirements: - Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in a related field, including engineering, education, or social sciences; - Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive information; - Experience conducting literature reviews and synthesizing information; - Ability to collect, organize and analyze data; - Strong organizational and time management skills; - Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; - An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
