JOB SUMMARY: The Class 1 Truck Driver plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable transport of goods and materials within Alberta. Reporting to the Shipping and Receiving Supervisor and Owner, this position requires strict adherence to delivery schedules, compliance with all applicable traffic laws and company safety policies, and a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service. The Class 1 Truck Driver will be responsible for handling cargo with the utmost care, securing loads to prevent damage during transit, and maintaining a strong focus on road safety and operational excellence. This role embodies professionalism, precision, and a dedication to service quality. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Transportation & Delivery (Weighting 40%) - Operate Class 1 commercial vehicles, including flatbeds, tankers, and other specialized trucks, to facilitate the efficient and safe transportation of goods and materials to various destinations across Alberta. - Execute scheduled pickups and deliveries with precision, ensuring that goods are delivered on time and in excellent condition to meet customer expectations. - Manage the loading and unloading of cargo, utilize equipment such as forklifts when necessary, and ensure all loads are properly secured to prevent movement or damage during transit. - Plan and adhere to the safest and most effective delivery routes, considering weather conditions, traffic patterns, and potential road closures. 2. Vehicle Operation Maintenance (Weighting 25%) - Perform comprehensive pre-trip, enroute, and post-trip vehicle inspections to identify and address any mechanical issues or safety concerns in a timely manner. - Regularly monitor and maintain vehicle fluid levels, tire pressure, and overall mechanical condition, ensuring that all company equipment meets operational and safety standards. - Promptly report any vehicle defects, maintenance needs, or incidents to the fleet supervisor or relevant personnel for immediate resolution. - Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the assigned vehicle to uphold company standards and project a professional image. 3. Compliance & Reporting (Weighting 25%) Safety Compliance - Ensure strict compliance with all Alberta transportation regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS) rules, to mitigate risks associated with driver fatigue and other safety concerns. - Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during loading, unloading, and other work-related tasks. - Successfully complete all mandatory safety training programs related to equipment use, defensive driving, and industry’s best practices. Recordkeeping - Accurately maintain and submit all required documentation for each trip, including delivery manifests, logbooks, and expense receipts, in accordance with company policies. - Track and report trip mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance needs as part of ongoing operational efficiency efforts. - Ensure that all required permits, certifications, and licenses are current, notifying management of any necessary renewals in advance to prevent delays or compliance issues. 4. Customer Service (Weighting 10%) - Provide exceptional customer service by interacting with clients and customers in a courteous and professional manner during pick-ups and deliveries, effectively addressing inquiries and resolving concerns. - Work collaboratively with dispatch and logistics teams to proactively address and resolve delivery schedule changes or route adjustments. - Represent the company in a positive and professional manner by maintaining a friendly attitude, and appropriate communication. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: - Must hold a valid Class 1 Driver’s License with a clean driving abstract. - Possession of an Air Brake (Q) Endorsement is required for this role. - A minimum of 5 years of experience operating Class 1 commercial vehicles is strongly preferred. - Prior experience with regional deliveries or familiarity with Alberta’s road network is considered an asset. - Previous experience handling and securing cargo safely. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: - Hours: Drivers must be flexible with working variable shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on operational demands. - Physical Demands: This role involves prolonged periods of driving, exposure to changing weather conditions, and physical labor during loading and unloading activities. - Environment: Drivers will primarily operate within Alberta, navigating rural, urban, and highway settings. The position requires adaptability to road conditions and traffic fluctuations.
