About the Role
The Aecon Fabrication Welding Robotics Technician will support the robotic welding activities at the Cambridge, Ontario location. This night shift position is responsible for maintaining robotic welding and material handling cells, ensuring high quality and safety standards required in the nuclear industry. The technician will interface with the welding center of excellence, a self‑managed department that provides internal welding services to Aecon and contract services to external clients.What You’ll Do Here
Responsible for Fanuc/robot programming and program modification of welding and material handling applications. Familiar with Keyence welding camera(s) and SmartRay weld inspection equipment is an asset. Participate in Continuous Improvement projects and work with Engineering to develop new welding techniques and process improvements.Troubleshoot robotic welding processes and resolve welding issues. Develop and maintain a database with records of changes and welding schedules. Develop program routines for new jobs. Change over jobs and set up weld tooling on automated equipment. Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on robots and automated welding machines in a timely manner.Make required modifications to robotic equipment to meet quality standards. Document process parameters for direct arc stud welding and GMAW operations. Program and troubleshoot all weld controllers to ensure quality standards are met. Modify welding equipment to ensure high running efficiency.Maintain safety standards of equipment and work area and perform duties safely in accordance with safety policies. Ensure all duties and tasks are carried out safely and efficiently. Comply with Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned. What You Bring To The Team
College or university degree in Engineering or related field (e.g., Mechanical, Materials, Mechatronics, Welding&Robotics). Advanced welding knowledge and hands‑on experience (mandatory). 5–10 years of experience in welding, manufacturing, or materials science. Knowledge of ASME, CWB, and/or AWS welding codes considered an asset. Strong experience programming robotic, automated, or mechanized welding systems.Mandatory experience with FANUC robotics programming and operation. Exposure to heavy welding equipment and tooling design/development is an asset. Ability to interpret, sketch, and communicate manufacturing concepts clearly. Solid understanding of value‑added vs. non‑value‑added manufacturing operations.Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word (intermediate to advanced). Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong teamwork and interpersonal abilities. Demonstrated problem‑solving and troubleshooting capabilities; results‑oriented and accountable.Detail‑oriented with a positive, solution‑focused attitude. Commitment to safety and continuous learning; passion for welding is an asset. Willingness to mentor, share knowledge, and support team development. Hands‑on experience with manufacturing tools, welding processes, and semi‑automated machinery is an asset.Valid G driver’s license and access to a vehicle. Salary
