Senior Mechanical Technologist/Designer (Cambridge)

Company Overview Axiom Industrial Solutions Inc. is a market leading industrial contractor in search of a Junior Mechanical Technician for immediate full-time employment. Axiom Industrial Solutions has been a Waterloo Region manufacturer and industrial contractor since 2003. We operate our own 40,000 sq ft fabrication facility and deliver turn-key solutions to food & beverage, pharmaceutical, and light industrial clients across North America. Job Purpose The Senior Mechanical Technologist will be responsible for mechanical design of projects and associated tasks. They will work with other Designers, Project Managers, Estimators, and Fabricators to ensure the timely execution of all assigned design and project related tasks. They will also act as a Manufacturing Engineering Technologist and be responsible for final detailing, preparing BOM’s and releasing complete drawing packages for manufacturing including document control of released drawing files and packages. This role includes occasional travel to customer sites to support real-world project delivery. Travel Expectations - Travel to customer sites across South Western Ontario. - Frequency is typically 3-5 local site visits per month. Duties & Responsibilities - Collaborate with designers and stakeholders to develop concepts and layouts from client specs, architectural drawings, or hand sketches. - Produce detailed 3D models, fabrication drawings, As-Built drawings, and complete manufacturing packages (including BOMs, DXFs, and document control). - Support the fabrication team daily — clarify intent, resolve discrepancies on the shop floor, and solve design-for-manufacturability issues in real time. - Communicate directly with customers during site visits, design reviews, installations, and troubleshooting to gather requirements, provide technical support, and ensure project success - Prepare complete fabrication package including printing drawings, generation of B.O.M, DXF and other related documents. - Travel to customer sites for site measurements, design reviews, equipment installations, and troubleshooting - Track deliverables, manage engineering changes/NCRs, and maintain organized project files. - Maintain a document management system for all designs drawings. - Contribute to continuous improvement in drawing standards, nesting efficiency, and lean practices. - Communicate and maintain a cooperative working relationship with all Axiom staff and customers including problem solving and conflict resolution. - Provide technical assistance and support as required to all Axiom departments and staff. Skills and Qualifications: - 3-year Mechanical Engineering Technologist diploma (or equivalent) from a recognized Canadian college. - Advanced degrees (Master’s or PhD) are not required or preferred for this junior role. - 5 - 10 years of practical experience in mechanical design for custom fabrication or industrial equipment. - Strong proficiency with SolidWorks and AutoCAD; solid Microsoft Excel skills. - Basic understanding of measuring tools and shop processes. - Valid driver’s licence and willingness/ability to travel as described above. - Portfolio of work samples is strongly encouraged (3–5 sample drawings from past projects). Assets - Experience with GMP and sanitary design of food & beverage or pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment. - Sheet metal design and fabrication knowledge. - Familiarity with conveyor systems or custom industrial equipment. - PDM and 3D scanning experience.
