Are you currently enrolled in an Early Childhood Education program and looking for valuable hands-on experience in a licensed child care setting? Ga’nigǫhi:yo Indigenous Child Care & Family Centre is seeking a Child Care Assistant to join our team this summer. This is an excellent opportunity for an ECE student to gain practical experience working alongside experienced educators in a licensed child care environment while supporting the growth, learning, and well-being of children. As a Child Care Assistant, you will be part of a collaborative team that values relationships, culture, inclusion, and quality early learning experiences. You will have the opportunity to observe and participate in daily programming, build professional skills, and gain experience that supports your future career in early childhood education. What You'll Do - Support educators in implementing engaging indoor and outdoor learning experiences. - Assist with daily routines, transitions, and supervision of children. - Help prepare materials and learning environments. - Participate in play-based learning experiences with children. - Foster positive relationships with children, families, and team members. - Support a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment. - Assist with maintaining classroom organization, cleaning, and sanitization practices. - Follow all centre policies, health and safety procedures, and licensing requirements. What We're Looking For - Currently enrolled in or actively pursuing an Early Childhood Education (ECE) diploma program. - Genuine interest in working with children and families. - Strong communication and teamwork skills. - Reliable, professional, and eager to learn. - Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Requirements - Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification (or willingness to obtain). - Current Vulnerable Sector Check (or ability to obtain prior to employment). - Up-to-date immunization records as required by legislation. - Ability to participate in all required orientation and training. Duties - Assist lead teachers in implementing daily activities and lesson plans tailored to children's developmental needs - Supervise children during indoor and outdoor play, ensuring a safe and engaging environment - Support children with their individual needs, including those with disabilities, fostering inclusion and participation - Help facilitate classroom routines such as snack time, nap time, and transitions between activities - Engage children in educational games, arts and crafts, and social interactions to promote learning and development - Maintain cleanliness of the classroom and play areas, adhering to health and safety standards - Communicate effectively with children, parents, and team members to support a positive classroom atmosphere Qualifications - Currently enrolled as an Early Childhood Education (ECE) student or pursuing related coursework - Prior classroom experience is preferred but not required; enthusiasm for working with children is essential - Experience working with individuals with disabilities is a plus - Robust interest in teaching, caregiving, and supporting children's growth and development - Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment - Compassionate, patient, reliable, and attentive to children's needs - Ability to follow safety protocols and maintain a positive attitude in a dynamic setting This summer position provides valuable practical experience for students interested in early childhood education careers.
