Title: IntermediateForestry Technician Department: Lil’wat Forestry Ventures (LFV)
Status: Full-Time/PartTime/Casual/Contract
Pay Grid: SAT
Reporting to: Community Relations and Forestry Manager
Summary of Duties: Under the direction of the Community Relations and Forestry Manager, the Intermediate Forestry Technician is responsible for developing, executing and monitoring Forestry projects.
Key Deliverables and Expectations: Lead and support forestry crews to complete project assignments provided in forestry and silviculture.
Ensure crews are working efficiently, effectively, and safely, and monitor project performance.
Efficiently navigate offroad/bush terrain on foot and using off‑road vehicles.
Oversee the operation and maintenance of crew vehicles and equipment by ensuring compliance with safety standards, training procedures and local laws.
Review and submit timesheets, and other safety reports.
Ensures Forestry Crews maintain and comply with the BC Forest Safety Council“SAFE Certification” program by completing and filing all required documents.
Assist with truck inspection, refueling trucks and maintaining other LFV equipment including ETVs, UTVs and chippers.
Post harvest assessment to ensure project meets LFV standards.
Develop silviculture planning for upcoming season:
Planting/Brushing/Surveys planning‑maps, contracts, budgets.
Development of Silviculture contracts.
Supervision of Silviculture contractors, including planting, surveys, and brushing.
Perform daily forestry and silviculture tasks like running chainsaws, tree planting, running brush saws, and supporting firefighting efforts.
Responsible for fuel management, cutting trees, clearing debris, digging trenches, and pumping water on burning areas to fight forest fires.
Maintain firefighting equipment.
Review potential prescribed burning blocks for current harvest.
Oversee work projects founded by both Provincial and/or Federal Funding Sources.
Enter Silviculture reports into the land management data.
Work with Lands and Resources collaboratively on field reviews.
Assist in the engineering and review of planned harvest blocks.
Assist in the supervision of forest harvesting and road building contractors.
Perform other related duties as requested.
Experience and Attributes: Bachelor’s Degree or a Diploma in a Forestry, Resource Management or related field; or equivalent knowledge in the forest industry including work in silviculture, wildfire suppression and harvesting.
Registered with the Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) as a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) of Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or
Enrolled, or eligible for immediate enrollment, with the Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) as a forest professional in training (TFT, ASTFT, FIT, ASFIT), for the purpose of obtaining an RFT or RPF designation.
Experience in tree planting, brushing, pruning, spacing, trail building, and silviculture surveys an asset.
Basic Chainsaw Training an asset.
OFA Level 1 with transportation endorsement an asset.
Experience in firefighting and fuels management is an asset.
Experience working in a supervisory or crew lead position is preferred.
Experience working within the BC Forestry Industry preferred.
Experience in related Occupational Health and Safety an asset.
Firefighting training (S100, S185, ICS100, S212, S235, S232,S211) an asset.
Demonstrated ability to multi-task and adapt in a flexible and fast paced environment.
Excellent interpersonal and people management skills.
Ability to organize, prioritize and manage workload.
Ability to work independently / with minimal supervision.
Excellent oral and written communication skills including report writing.
Basic computer knowledge, iPad skills and experience using Avenza Maps.
Class 5 Driver’s License.
