Saw Operator / Production Associate (Wallaceburg)

The Sawing Machine Operator adjusts saw blades. The Sawing Machine Operator inspects, and measures work pieces to mark for cuts and to verify the accuracy of cuts, using tape measure and Verners. The Sawing Machine Operator sets up, operates, or tends saws and machines that cut or trim metal/steel to specified dimensions, such as circular saws, band saws, multiple-blade sawing machines, scroll saws, ripsaws, and crozer machines. The Sawing Machine Operator inspects stock for imperfections and to estimate grades or qualities of stock or work pieces. The Sawing Machine Operator must operate panel boards of saw and conveyor systems to move stock through processes, and to cut stock to specified dimensions. The Sawing Machine Operator mounts and bolts sawing blades or attachments to machine shafts. The Sawing Machine Operator must monitor sawing machines, adjust speed and tension and clear jams to ensure proper operation. Job Duties - Position and properly secure metal/steel stock on machine beds using clamps, hoists, and wedges - Guide metal/steel materials by hand against a lathe or saw to direct the shaping or line of cutting - Oversee the mounting and installation of sawing blades or other components onto a sawing machine - Clean and lubricate the moving parts of a saw - Utilize calipers, protractors and rules to mark the cutting lines on a metal/steel workpieces - Adjust the feed rate and speed of sawing machines by turning the controls or inputting appropriate values into the control panel. - Ensure proper disposal of waste materials after work operations - Study and examine the diagrams, blueprints, and work order to determine the most efficient process for operation - Utilize crane to load and convey metal/steel materials to site of operation - Regulate the flow of coolant and air pressure during a sawing process Qualifications - High school diploma or equivalent. - Ability to solve practical problems and provide appropriate solutions - Ability to organize workload for maximum effectiveness. - Ability to communicate clearly and concisely - Solid detail orientation and understanding of safe work processes and procedures - Ability to support and adapt to change as the external environment and organization evolves - Crane Certificate.
