CREATIVE DIRECTOR (PROGRAMMING AND COMMUNICATIONS) ReFrame Film Festival is hiring! Are you the next Creative Director?

Full‑time, salaried (average 35 hours/week), year‑round
Location: Nogojiwanong / Peterborough, Ontario (hybrid possible; local preferred)
Salary: $49, 55, 55,000, depending on experience

About the Role The Creative Director is responsible for implementing the creative and artistic vision of ReFrame Film Festival, a community celebration of documentary film and media art centred on social and environmental justice. This role oversees all aspects of creative programming, including curation of films and media art, development of thematic programming, and coordination of artists, guests, and events. The Creative Director leads the creation of the festival schedule, manages the programming budget, and works collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community partners to shape a cohesive and impactful festival experience. The Creative Director also leads organizational communications, including oversight of social media, newsletters, website content, and public‑facing materials, ensuring that ReFrame’s voice is clear, engaging, and aligned with its mission. As a public‑facing representative of the organization, the Creative Director engages with media, audiences, and partners to strengthen ReFrame’s presence locally and nationally.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the curation of film and media art programming
Develop and shape annual festival themes and programming direction
Coordinate filmmakers, artists, guests, and ancillary programming
Create and manage the festival schedule
Oversee the programming budget
Lead communications strategy and execution (digital, print, and media)
Collaborate with the Executive Director on organizational strategy and operations
Support and steward the volunteer Programming Advisory Committee
Represent ReFrame in media and public‑facing contexts
Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a thoughtful and collaborative leader with a strong curatorial voice and a passion for documentary film and media art. They are an effective communicator, comfortable working across creative and operational contexts, and committed to fostering inclusive, community‑engaged spaces. We are looking for someone with experience in film programming, arts presentation, communications, or a related field; a strong understanding of social and environmental justice issues; excellent written and verbal communication skills; high organization and ability to manage multiple projects and timelines; and a commitment to equity, accessibility, and anti‑oppression in their work.
