We offer flexible hours, training and much more! As a charity thrift retailer, we transform gently used items into resources and support for women and their families in Calgary. WINS is dedicated to the repurpose, recycle and upcycle of gently used clothing and household items. Reporting to the Manager - Sort and working as part of the Donation Centre team, the Sort Associate is responsible for ensuring the effective management of donations from individual and retail donors by sorting, grading, distributing, recycling, and storing of donated goods daily. The Sort Associate enhances WINS’ contribution to the community by providing excellent support to customers (through Twice Current and More Store by WINS), donors, and volunteers at the WINS Donation Centre. Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible for the Canada Summer Jobs employment opportunity, applicants must: - Be legally eligible to work in Canada* in accordance with relevant provincial legislation/regulations - Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment - Be available to start work immediately (during May–June) Hours of Work: Applicants must be available to work full time (30 hours per week) for 9 consecutive weeks, Monday to Sunday Wage: $16.00 per hour Duties and Responsibilities: Sorting & Storing - Efficiently & consistently sort and grade previously rough-sorted donations to determine the quality and most appropriate path for each item (ex: for thrift stores, Twice New e-commerce, More Store by WINS, seasonal, recycle, or disposal) - Refine sorted goods into specific product categories (ex: style, item type, etc.) and load into bins for holding/storage - Share expertise as required with other staff and volunteers regarding the quality of donations (grading) Recycle - Recognize product suitable for recycling, salvaging all possible product to divert it from landfill, reduce WINS’ environmental imprint’ and build WINS recycle revenue Retail & E-commerce - Supply the More Store by WINS with product from the sort area; remove dated product from the More Store divert to it to recycle - Process sales transactions as point of sale (POS) in an accurate and efficient manner - Provide friendly, positive, professional service to customers of the More Store by WINS - Support Twice New e-commerce with ensuring suitable product availability from donations Teamwork - Act as an ambassador for WINS both on and off the job - Maintain excellent donor, employee, and volunteer relations through positive, kind, and professional interactions with others - Engage and support individual and corporate group volunteers to ensure that their experience is fun and rewarding - Maintain ongoing communication with management on any issues or concerns Health & Safety and Industrial Hygiene - Positively engage in and comply with all WINS health & safety practices, procedures, and policies - Maintain a safe working area for all employees, volunteers, clients, and customers by ensuring workstations and aisles are clean, tidy, and clear of clutter - Other duties as assigned Requirements: Education - Grade 12 education, or equivalent combination of education and experience Experience Personal/ Professional Attribute - Eligible to legally work in Canada - An understanding of and affinity for the WINS brand, mission, and role with our clients, customers, volunteers, donors, and community - Solid organization skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment - Effective communication skills including proficiency in verbal and written English - Basic numeracy is required to keep counts and operate point of sale equipment - A welcoming and empathetic demeanor with an ability to build and maintain positive relationships with other employees and individual & corporate volunteers - Excellent customer service orientation - Flexibility to comply with a work schedule with shifts throughout the week - Able to stand for long periods of time - Able to correctly and safely lift a minimum of 50lbs/23kg individually, and 100lbs/45kg as part of a team - Work-ready with CSA approved steel-toed safety boots Apply on Kit Job: kitjob.ca/job/2nyay6
