Production Supervisor (Sample Preparation Supervisor) (Gander)

Sample Preparation Shift Supervisor Reports to: Branch Manager. The Sample Preparation Shift Supervisor ensures the shift runs smoothly, productivity quotas are met, and standards are upheld. They oversee staff, coordinate workloads, and maintain safety and quality standards. Responsibilities - Supervise sample preparation staff during shifts. - Maintain shift production levels and ensure turnaround time targets are met. - Coordinate and prioritize daily workloads. - Ensure adherence to SOPs and safety procedures. - Enter and verify work orders accurately. - Identify and resolve issues with missing or incomplete client sample instructions. - Collaborate with layout personnel and work‑order entry group. - Maintain liaison with the Manager, Assistant Manager, and other lab staff. - Resolve internal & external problems and investigate client complaints regarding quality. - Conduct monthly crew talks on safety and quality. - Arrange employee shift work in consultation with the Prep Supervisor. - Assist with employee performance evaluations, discipline, and other personnel matters. - Maintain training records and controlled documents. - Update and generate prep QC data charts. - Perform basic mechanical maintenance as required. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities - Experience managing and training staff. - Hands‑on laboratory computer systems experience. - Basic mechanical aptitude. - Organized, highly motivated, detail‑oriented. - Commitment to quality and safety. - Independent or teamwork capabilities. - Ability to handle high‑volume, time‑critical work. - Strong interpersonal skills and diplomacy. - Excellent written and verbal English communication. - Computer skills including LIMS, Webview, MS Word, Excel, Outlook. Required Qualifications - Minimum three years experience in a commercial minerals laboratory or mineral sample preparation. - Degree or diploma in mineralogy, geology or chemistry is an asset. - Forklift licence or experience operating a forklift is an asset. - Physically able to sit or stand for long periods, work in hot and dusty conditions, lift up to 50 lbs, and be cleanly shaved to wear protective equipment. Physical Demands Ability to sit/stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, work in hot and dusty environments, and maintain manual dexterity for repetitive tasks.
