Position Overview
The City of Burlington is seeking a collaborative and experienced senior leader to serve as Senior Manager, Community Development and Partnerships within the Recreation, Community and Culture (RCC) department. This role provides strategic leadership for community development work that enables the community to do more for itself. The Senior Manager oversees community‑led initiatives, partnerships, community investment and grants, and the community experience across RCC programs and facilities. The position also leads strategic projects that support department‑wide priorities and responds to growth and emerging community needs.Responsibilities
Lead and advance community development initiatives that build community capacity, support emerging ideas, and promote equity, access, and inclusion. Oversee community investment and grant programs, including application intake, assessment, and alignment with Council and corporate priorities. Provide strategic leadership for Recreation, Community and Culture partnerships, including partnership frameworks, governance, and issue escalation.Oversee the Community Experience function to ensure welcoming, consistent, and high‑quality experiences for residents across programs and facilities. Lead and support cross‑departmental strategic projects that contribute to long‑term planning, innovation, and service improvement. Monitor and respond to community trends, growth pressures, and emerging issues, providing senior‑level advice to department leadership.Lead and support multidisciplinary teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and service excellence. Requirements
Post‑secondary education in Community Development, Public Administration, Recreation, Planning, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 7–10 years of progressive leadership experience in community development, partnerships, grants, or related public or not‑for‑profit sectors.Demonstrated experience leading community‑facing services, managing partnerships, and overseeing community investment or grant programs. Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder‑engagement skills, with experience navigating complex community and organizational environments. A valid G driver’s license is required with an acceptable driver’s abstract (no more than three (3) driving related convictions or an accumulation of no more than three (3) demerit points in the previous three (3) years prior to the date of hire).May require occasional travel between sites and/or City facilities.
