About The Role The Registered Nurse (RN) reports to the Director of Care and/or designate and is the role model and team leader who coordinates and supervises the activities and duties of those who deliver direct resident care. The RN performs duties and monitors departmental activities in accordance with established standards, regulations, policies and procedures to maximize the holistically quality care while maintaining resident respect and dignity.

Responsibilities

Be an engaged collaborative team player, developing and maintaining professional relationships that support and strengthen the organizational culture and purpose.

Assess residents’ needs and implement individualized resident‑centered care plans.

Support LPNs to review and update care plans as required and offer clinical decision‑making support including clinical assessments to support the care team daily as needed.

Administer medications and treatments as per established standards, regulations, policies and procedures.

Manage community wound care, assist LPNs with assessment, treatment and documentation as needed, facilitate referral to a Wound Care Specialist when necessary and submit weekly wound reports to the Director of Care (DOC) or designate.

Provide direct care to residents as necessary and liaise with other disciplines and departments to ensure quality‑focused resident care.

Liaise with physicians, community agency representatives, families, visitors and volunteers.

Support the move‑in process, work collaboratively with other team members and follow community policies and protocols.

Attend Care Conferences in the absence of the DOC or designate.

Ensure residents’ rights are observed and adhere to a holistic philosophy of wellness.

Act as First Aid attendant when on duty and ensure all injured staff complete required documentation.

Maintain a safe environment for residents, family and staff through accident prevention, knowledge of emergency procedures and regulations, safe use of supplies and equipment, reporting necessary repairs, and utilizing infection control procedures.

Coordinate and supervise care staff; direct their work and assign duties as necessary to ensure resident‑focused care is provided and resident rights are observed.

Provide clinical direction to community care staff in the absence of the DOC or designate.

Fulfill clinical on‑call duties as required.

Perform community audits and correlate data to submit to DOC or designate.

Participate in orientation of new employees.

Provide educational material and direction on procedures to clinical staff and demonstrate techniques.

Provide informed input into staff evaluations while supporting LPNs in coaching/mentoring HCA staff.

Actively participate in orientation of new staff, community programs, meetings, committees and educational in‑services.

Maintain paper and electronic documents as per established standards, regulations, policies and procedures, ensuring confidentiality is maintained.

Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills

Graduate of an approved nursing program and hold a current license with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as an RN.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing is an asset.

Valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 certification and CPR.

Successful annual Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) competency testing.

Previous experience in a long‑term care facility is an asset.

All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to provincial guidelines.

Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.

Computer skills including navigation of Word, Excel, Outlook.

Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift and carry up to 25 lbs. Must be able to work with cleaners, detergents and other cleaning equipment.
