Responsibilities 1. Performs maintenance on hospital equipment and systems as directed; alters systems operating parameters and schedules, repairs/calibrates various instrumentation components; performs electrical and mechanical maintenance repairs to heavy duty and other equipment such as pumps, fans, air compressors, autoclaves, washers, sterilizers, oxygen and vacuum systems and kitchen equipment by oiling and greasing equipment and replacing items such as valves bearings, seals drive units, electric motors, fans and pumps. 2. Performs repairs on plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, water supply lines and waste lines including unplugging of toilets, drains and plaster traps. Maintains and adjusts all domestic water systems and related equipment. 3. Monitors, maintains and repairs medical gas systems, sterilizer equipment, stills and sanitizing washers and records daily oxygen consumption. 4. Maintains and repairs building fabric such as walls, roofs, doors and windows. 5. Constructs items such as walls, doors, floors, ceilings and windows by framing, applying and finishing materials such as drywall, wood, paneling, floor covering, designs, and constructs furniture such as desks and tables. 6. Performs plastering, painting and decorating by selecting a variety of paint, plaster and wall coverings. 7. Operates and assures readiness at all times of the building emergency systems such as fire alarm systems and emergency stand-by generators by performing inspections and tests. Takes appropriate action to maintain essential services during power failures and internal or external disasters. 8. Maintains an inventory of supplies, equipment and tools, completes related reports and records, and recommends purchase of related equipment and supplies. 9. Performs removal of snow and ice from entrances, walkways and service driveways for safety of visitors and staff. 10. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education and Experience Grade 10, plus four (4) years' recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Skills and Abilities - Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. - Ability to deal with others effectively. - Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position. - Ability to organize work. - Ability to operate related equipment.
