Position Historical Interpreter – Battle Memorial Building (student) Hours of Work Variable up to 36.25 hours per week Location Upper Canada Village (11 km east of Morrisburg) Salary $18.45 per hour Period of Employment May to September 2026 Responsibilities Be a representative of one of Morrisburg’s premium and internationally recognized tourism sites. Interpret aspects of early Canadian military history, specifically the War of 1812 and Battle of Crysler’s Farm. Assist with school and youth group programs visiting the National Historic Site and Battle Memorial Building. Work safely at all times and report unsafe activities immediately to supervisor. Embody the St. Lawrence Parks Commission’s equity, diversity and inclusion principles while interacting with staff and guests. This position may be combined with duties of the Historical Interpreter position. Qualifications The ability to greet and communicate effectively to large numbers of people of various ages and backgrounds. Knowledge and interest in early Canadian military history, historical reenactments and events. Ability to study and learn interpretive and historical material related to this position and the Village. Ability to perform physical duties and demonstrations associated with this position. Ability to wear historical costume and corporate uniform. Ability to perform and learn the skills associated with this position (e.g., military drill demonstrations, teaching, role playing). Ability to work independently. Ability to learn all safety protocols and procedures to ensure personal, visitor and fellow staff safety at all times.
