Purpose of Job The Assistant Store Manager performs sales and customer service in an effective and efficient manner. To sell products in a profitable manner, representing Interstate All Battery to customers and the public. To perform management activities in the absence or at the direction of the Store Manager. Job Components Actively sell products and services by consulting with retail and commercial customers to identify needs and recommend solutions. Test, diagnose, and troubleshoot battery and electrical system issues; perform installations as needed. Support daily store operations, including scheduling, task delegation, and execution of company policies and procedures. Assist in managing store performance, including monitoring sales, margins, and key metrics. Provide excellent customer service and assist with counter sales and issue resolution. Maintain inventory levels, coordinate ordering, and oversee product deliveries and shipments. Prepare and assist with daily reports, including cash handling, deposits, reconciliations, and accounts receivable collections. Stock shelves, set displays, and ensure proper merchandising standards are maintained. Maintain store cleanliness and organization, including participation in cleaning of sales floor, stockroom, and exterior areas. Ensure compliance with safety standards and promote safe work practices. Support hiring, onboarding, and training of staff. Assume leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Store Manager, including opening/closing the store and supervising team members. Follow/fulfill all driver program requirements, as specified by the manager. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree in business or a related field preferred. 2+ years of retail, automotive, or customer service experience; prior supervisory or key holder experience preferred. Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively engage retail and commercial customers. Excellent listening, negotiation, and customer service skills. Robust organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Demonstrated leadership skills, including planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and supporting team performance. Experience supporting sales initiatives and contributing to sales and marketing strategies in a retail or commercial setting preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook and Excel. Comfortable using standard business and retail tools, including computers, POS systems, and calculators. Ability to operate a motor vehicle and clean driving record. Ability to lift and move heavy products (typically 40–70 lbs) and perform physical tasks such as stocking, cleaning, and installations. Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Scope Data Reports to the Store Manager and is required to interact with other sales floor employees, customers and prospects, delivery recipients, and other people who would be common to a retail environment. Responsible for management of Store Associates. Handles financial transactions and cash; responsible for some store paperwork. Operate with integrity and demonstrate a positive attitude. Work Environment Work is performed primarily in a retail store setting, however, frequently exposed to dirt and dust, fumes, temperature extremes, dampness, and battery acid. Position requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, climbing, kneeling, and lifting and carrying. Be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs, without assistance and occasionally lifting up to 75 lbs. Work involves some irregularities and difficulties, repetitive and varied tasks, and possible delivery driving duties. Stress associated with workplace pressure and the retail workplace.
