Building Maintenance Worker (Port Alberni)

Job Title: Building Maintenance Worker Employer: Jericho Road Church 5100 Tebo Ave. Port Alberni, BC V9Y 5Y6 Position Type: Full-Time (Temporary, Summer Position, 30 hours weekly) Duration: Start date to be determined. Wage: $20 per hour Jericho Road Church is a community-focused Christian organization dedicated to serving individuals and families through outreach, worship, and practical care. About the Role: The Building Maintenance Worker will assist with general upkeep, maintenance, cleaning, and minor repair work across Jericho Road Church’s property and facilities. The role supports the ongoing function and safety of the church building and grounds, ensuring a clean, organized, and safe environment for congregants and community members. Key Responsibilities: - Perform routine maintenance tasks such as painting, cleaning, and small repairs. - Assist with landscaping duties including mowing, weeding, and trimming. - Conduct basic inspections of building systems (e.g., lighting, plumbing) and report issues. - Set up and take down equipment and furniture for events and programs. - Maintain tools and supplies in an organized manner. - Support building maintenance manager, and custodial team with cleaning common areas such as washrooms, hallways, and meeting rooms. - Follow health and safety protocols at all times. - Participate in team discussions and take direction from facility management team. Qualifications: - Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment, as per Canada Summer Jobs eligibility. - Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, and outdoor labour. - Basic knowledge of hand and power tools considered an asset. - Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic. - Interest in facility maintenance, construction, or trades is a plus. - Respectful of the values and environment of a faith-based organization. Supervision & Mentorship: The successful candidate will be directly supervised and mentored by the team of elders, council, and/or building maintenance manager. Regular check-ins and goal-setting meetings will be conducted to support professional growth. Work Environment: Work is primarily on-site at Jericho Road Church and may include indoor and outdoor tasks. Safety equipment and training will be provided as needed.
