The Opportunity McElhanney has an opportunity for a Junior Civil Engineer (EIT) to join our Civil Communities Engineering team in Courtenay, BC. In this role, you will be responsible for providing innovative and integrated consulting services to our public and private sector clients, supporting a range of municipal, indigenous, provincial and land‑development projects. You will have the opportunity to support a variety of projects in a flexible environment while working with a multidisciplinary team of structural, geotechnical, environmental and surveying professionals. What You’ll Do - Provide design support for various infrastructure projects including municipal engineering, road works, utilities and facility upgrades. - Complete field inspections to monitor the quality and progress of construction work on infrastructure projects. - Assist in the preparation of tender and contract documents and drawings. - Prepare and adhere to site‑specific health and safety plans. - Provide support to other departments (geomatics, materials testing, and structural engineering) to learn and develop a holistic approach to project execution. - Work with other team members to ensure schedules, budgets, and quality control standards are achieved and maintained. - Be directly supervised by a professional engineer (P.Eng.) registered in BC. What You’ll Bring - Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited post‑secondary institution. - Prior experience working in the industry through internships or co‑ops. - Registration in good standing as an Engineer‑In‑Training (EIT) in British Columbia, or eligibility to be registered. - Proficiency in the application of AutoCAD Civil 3D. - High productivity, attention to detail, effective verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work well in a team environment. - Live in Courtenay, BC or a commutable distance from the area. - Willingness to work from the Courtenay office. What Can We Offer You? The salary range for this position is $65,000 – $85,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting.
