Position Title Asbestos Analyst / Analytical Chemist Location Courtenay, BC Employment Type Full-Time About the Role We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our laboratory team in a combined role as an Asbestos Analyst and Analytical Chemist. This position offers an excellent opportunity for someone interested in environmental laboratory work and analytical chemistry. The asbestos analysis portion of the role is entry-level, and no prior asbestos analysis experience is required — full training will be provided. The analytical chemistry portion involves the analysis of building materials for lead content using Flame Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (Flame-AAS). This role is ideal for candidates with a scientific background who are eager to develop hands-on laboratory skills in environmental testing and instrumental analysis. Responsibilities Asbestos Analysis - Prepare and analyze bulk building material samples for asbestos content - Use polarized light microscopy (PLM) techniques following established procedures - Maintain accurate records and laboratory documentation - Follow laboratory quality assurance and safety protocols - Assist with sample receiving and preparation Analytical Chemistry - Prepare building material samples for lead analysis - Perform lead analysis using Flame Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (Flame-AAS) - Calibrate and maintain analytical instruments - Review and verify analytical data for accuracy and quality control compliance - Maintain laboratory records and reporting documentation Qualifications Required - Diploma or degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related scientific field - Robust attention to detail and organizational skills - Ability to follow written procedures and work independently - Good computer and documentation skills - Commitment to laboratory safety and quality standards Preferred - Previous laboratory experience - Experience with Flame-AAS instrumentation - Familiarity with environmental or materials testing laboratories Training will be provided for asbestos analysis.
