Opportunity: Technologist - Pulp + Paper Testing (JD#260505) Company: Econotech Services Ltd. Location: Vancouver (Delta), BC We are looking to add to our experienced team and have an opportunity for a temporary full-time technologist in our pulp and paper testing laboratory. We seek a motivated individual who can excel in a challenging technical domain where quality results are crucial. This role is a full-time, maternity leave contract position, expected to run from Aug 2026 until Oct 2027. It is based at our Annacis Island, Delta BC facility. Come join our team! Role Description: Paper testing technologists play a key role in delivering value to customers and meeting our targets. Your performance is rated based on accuracy, productivity and technical flexibility, as well as your positive contribution to team culture and success. The three core deliverables are: 1. 1. Execute pulping, bleaching and paper testing work efficiently to meet delivery time targets, preparing and processing samples to generate data. 2. Follow operating procedures and quality protocols exactly and with a low error/rework rate. This ensures accurate results and records that meet requirements. 3. Become proficient, then expert in the methods and equipment used in this work. This begins with basic sample preparation and testing, then extends into a catalogue of physical and optical test methods and applicability scenarios. The pulp and paper testing laboratory runs a wide range of physical and optical test procedures on pulp and paper samples, as well as pulping and bleaching trials at small pilot scale. You’ll report to the lab supervisor and work closely with team members to provide timely, accurate test results that are used by our clients to optimize industrial processes and monitor product quality. This is hands-on analysis work for an individual who is motivated and capable in a fast paced and dynamic lab environment. You’ll train and apply a range of industry standard procedures to samples derived from wood and other plant material, using equipment specific to the pulp and paper industry. General Activities and Responsibilities: - Work in a solid team environment, as well as independently - Adhere to safe work procedures - Sample prep work and bench testing. Some lifting up to 15kg - Data analysis and interpretation - Multitasking and working under tight deadlines - Assist operationally and in other departments as appropriate Suited to Candidates with the following Experience and Strengths: - Energetic, motivated, willing to learn. You’re reliable and hard-working, and set your own high bar for performance. - A team player. You’ll assist where you can and won’t hesitate to ask for help. - Organized and detail-orientated. You have an ability to follow and perform testing of samples per standard operating procedures. - Graduated with a college or post-secondary education in a science or industry related program. - Prefer experience and/or knowledge of pulp and paper testing or manufacturing processes. Experience in light microscopy would be an asset. - Strong mathematical and statistics skills, able to interpret graph data. - Computers aren’t a barrier. Proficient in MS Excel and Word. Adaptable to technical software. - Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, with the ability to engage people in a positive manner.
