About the Role Reporting to executive leadership, the Human Resources Manager – North America (“HR Manager”) is responsible for leading HR functions and contributing to HR strategy and people practices across Canada (~180 BMM personnel) and the United States (~80 BMM personnel). The position is an “in office” position based in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, but the HR Manager will routinely participate in Teams/Zoom calls with colleagues in the U.S. and elsewhere within BMM’s global footprint. The HR Manager is a hands-on role that provides both strategic and day-to-day HR leadership across the full employee lifecycle, including talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, compliance, compensation and benefits, HR operations, and employee engagement. This position regularly supports complex employee relations matters — including performance challenges, workplace concerns, investigations, and, when necessary, terminations — and therefore requires sound judgment, objectivity, and a calm, professional approach. We are seeking someone who enjoys building strong relationships, supporting employees and leaders, and continuously improving HR processes, while remaining comfortable navigating challenging employee situations. The HR Manager partners closely with executive and mid-level leadership to support organizational goals, manage risk, and help foster a positive, compliant, and inclusive workplace culture. Key Responsibilities - Coordinate and oversee hiring, promotion, transfer, and termination processes across the U.S. and Canada. - Ensure compliance with federal, state, provincial, and local employment laws. - Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on HR strategy, workforce planning, and employee relations. - Supervise and develop BMM’s HR Coordinator – North America by sharing expertise, providing development opportunities, and helping build capabilities. Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning - Lead end-to-end recruitment activities, including workforce forecasting, job postings, interviews, offer approvals, and onboarding. - Help ensure fair, equitable, and compliant hiring practices across multiple jurisdictions. - Coordinate immigration matters for foreign national employees in the U.S. and Canada in partnership with legal counsel. Employee Relations & Labor Management - Serve as a primary point of contact for complex employee relations matters, including grievances, investigations, and dispute resolution. - Coach managers through disciplinary actions, performance improvement plans, and terminations with professionalism and sound judgment. - Conduct and analyze exit interviews to identify trends, risks, and opportunities to improve BMM’s employee experience. Performance Management & Development - Oversee performance review cycles and calibration processes. - Partner with managers on career development, succession planning, and identifying high-potential talent. Compensation, Benefits & Payroll - Oversee benefits administration processes for both countries and partner with BMM’s Finance team to ensure payroll issues are identified and resolved timely. - Prepare and review promotion, salary increase, bonus, and employment-related letters. Compliance, Policies & Risk Management - Maintain and update HR policies and employee handbooks for North America. - Help ensure compliance with safety regulations, employment standards, and mandatory training requirements, such as FCPA. - Proactively monitor and help mitigate HR-related legal and operational risk. HR Operations & Systems - Oversee BMM’s HRIS and related systems while ensuring data accuracy, confidentiality, and effective recordkeeping. - Identify opportunities to maximize the value and effectiveness of BMM’s existing HRIS; serve as a stakeholder in any BMM initiatives to pursue a new HRIS/HCM system. - Ensure effective onboarding and offboarding processes, including accrued PTO balances, final pay, and system access changes. Employee Engagement & Culture - Coordinate and support employee engagement initiatives, morale-building activities, and company events, such as summer BBQs and holiday celebrations. - Support internal communications related to culture, benefits, policies, and organizational updates. Leadership & Collaboration - Support and coach leaders at all levels, including executive and mid-level management. - Manage and develop HR team members and external vendors, as applicable. Qualifications & Experience Candidates for the BMM HR Manager position, should have the following qualifications and levels of experience: - Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. - CPHR, CHRL, SHRM-CP, PHR, or similar HR designation preferred. - 6+ years of progressive, hands-on HR experience in a generalist or HR leadership role. - Experience supporting employees across both Canada and the United States is preferred; however, BMM does not expect mastery of both jurisdictions on day one. We value strong experience in at least one country, along with the understanding and commitment that the role will require the HR Manager to rapidly build expertise in the other. BMM will support continued professional development accordingly. - Experience handling employee relations cases including performance management, investigations, and terminations. - Strong understanding of HR best practices and employment legislation. - Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills. - Strong judgment, professionalism, and ability to handle confidential matters with discretion. - Experience supporting and coaching managers on employee-related matters.
